Re: viewsat vspro vs. viewsat ultra

I have had a VS Ultra for the last year and it is a great box. I have not tested a CW but have heard very good comments on this box also.
You make the choice.
Regards....

i agree 100% with GH on this one also.
the ultra is good.all who try one seem to like them.good support and hardware.
but you know the price difference does not justify buying the ultra anymore.
for only a few more bucks you get a LOT more receiver in this case.

c/p from viewsatusa:

The VIEWSAT VSPRO is our newest and of course most powerful and exciting Free To Air Receiver to date! This PVR ready receiver will knock your socks off. This receiver was initially designed to be a dual tuner PVR so the GUI was created for TRUE PVR functionality. In order to make this unit more affordable, we redesigned it to have a single tuner with the option of adding an external Hard Drive through either of two USB ports. The VSPRO uses the fastest processor ever in the FTA market, a blazing 260MHz ST! With 32 Mb SDRAM, a beautiful new GUI, 2 USB ports (front and rear), this STB is sure to be Viewsats new best seller. For more information, contact a Viewsat dealer near you.

............
The VIEWSAT ULTRA is best selling Free To Air Receiver. We’ve added a faster processor (200 MHz), double the memory of the Xtreme (32 Mb SD RAM), and a USB communications port for easy data updates. Now you can use your USB flash drive to update your receiver. The new universal remote that comes with this unit is awesome. If that's not enough, wait until you see the new colorful Graphic User Interface. This is by far the best FTA STB the market has ever seen.
.....................

the only thing i was surprised to see is they didn't go with 64 mbs of ram for the pro.since bev streams more than 2 days epg now.(they stream 7 and dn streams 9)
in order for a receiver to get more than 7 dn/2 bev more than 32 mbs is needed.(at same time anyway)
but i mean, its still good.i was just surprised.since they boosted the chip up to a monster 260 mhz!!!

anyway.for the little money more.you get a much faster chip(motor of the unit) and pvr!

hands down its the vs pro over the ultra for sure.based on the small price difference.

On the Pro do you need hook up an external hard drive to use it as a pvr.

Re: viewsat vspro vs. viewsat ultra

Yes, but I've yet to hear how easy it is to record, etc. Anyone with a Pro that can shed light on just how easy it is to record other programs would be appreciate. I'd like to have the PVR on the Pro but don't want to spend hours trying to record or playback.
