So I said I would be testing one soon and here is the review on the unit with the 8psk module.
STB Look
Plated in silver with an excellent led display this unit is nice to the eye.
Video outputs are plentiful S-video, HDMI,Component, Composite. Audio ranges from the optical to the mono very nice feature.
The is a push drop down door in the front which houses a card reader and a 2.0 USB and there is also a USB in the rear of the unit. It is also equipped with the dual DVB.
This is also another unit that if the remote is unusable you can load and change the channels with the front navi buttons.
This is a first Gen I am testing it does not have a fan that would be in the second generation VS9000's. Exterior on the unit could have had better ventalation slots.
Menu's
The menu's on the reciever are well layed out and easy to navigate. Tell you the true this is a HD Ultra with extra feature's I had no issue's with knowing where everything is on the unit. It also has the PVR menu options from the Pro so I knew instantly how to use the pvr aspect and viewing the recorded content you can say that the unit is a hybrid of the 2000 and Pro.
Loading
To load the 9000 is much the same as the pro with the designation of the USB you have to select which USB you want to use then move to another menu to select the file you wish to use.
Very nice feature is to safely remove the USB in doing this it extends the possibliliy of files less likely to get corrupted IE recordings. To bad the safety remove does not work on the system.
Set up
Well have you ever set up an Ultra exactly the same no difference but there is some extra features to the set up that allows you to scan terrestrial's neat feature. Althought I had and issue with the quality the signal was high this was remedied with the loading of the factory bin and then factory default and the new file.
EPG
Exactly like the Ultra again forgot I was using the 9000 till I started to watch it with the HDMI hooked up and then the picture let me know. Again it updated on all providers for 3 day's worth.
Install of the external HDD
Basically I had to do nothing because it was set up on the VSPRO so it was plug and play no issues. the storage was a bit different though they tried to be like the 3000 with the folder in the folder type I had to access the recording by opening 3 different folders. Not really all that great menu ---> USB ---> VSHD ---> then the folder's.
Overall did not like the feel of the VS 9000HD the picture was great only due to the HDMI connection. It feels a more of the Ultra with a touch of the Pro the 8psk is a nice feature where it is mounted internally and looped to the feed. Sorry VS but I believe you can do better.

the SV 8000 hd is a better unit I have set a a few and like them way better, b3v is going to the mpeg 4 format and you will need the 8psk for that as well.
