HD receiver
I've had a nice Panasonic HD Plasma TV for a while now but I've been too broke to actually use it's HD capabilities. I finally broke down and now am having an HD satellite dish installed on my roof by my friend who used to work for Dish Network. I now need to purchase an HD receiver so I can finally use my TV like it was meant to be used. I saw a friend with his HD TV connected to receive HD signal and it's amazing. Which HD receiver has the best quality picture and best features for the best price? I just got my money from Bush and I want to buy a receiver while I can. Thanks!

Re: HD receiver
Sonicview makes a great box. You have to make sure that with any possible receiver you buy, it comes with a HDMI connection or a DVI connection, and then make sure your tv has the same type.

Re: HD receiver
make sure your friend has sat 129 set up for you.
the top 3 receivers have the 8psk add on adapter and can do mpeg 4.
if you want dn, you should get one that supports that...

Re: HD receiver
What do you all think of the Coolsat HD receiver? I saw that it has 1 GB internal memory for recording.

its mpeg2 hd only.you cannot add anything to it to get dn hd.
mpeg2hd will be changing over to mpeg4hd on bev at some point.
if your looking for an mpeg2hd only unit.check out the captain 8000
its MUCH cheaper,tho not pvr.

Re: HD receiver
mpeg4hd is what dn/bev will only use.dn already only does mpeg4hd.
when bev changes over, everyones mpeg2hd only units will only get hd on true fta.
the price difference is huge tho.and no one knows when the change over will happen on bev.thats why the captain 8k is good, cus its just over 200.then of course it will still be good for standard def chans too.
if your looking for the top of the line right now, check out the sonicview 8000hd
that will do mpeg4hd with an addon.
that combo will set ya back over 600 tho.so its a big difference.but will be good for along time hopefully.
