What to buy?
I'm looking to buy my first system. I hear that problems may be coming in the near future due to some kind of card swap out. I don't want to buy now and go down in June! I need an HD receiver and a dish with the lnb's for HD. I would also like PVR or DVR capabilities. Should I wait till after June or buy now? What is the best receiver and dish to meet my needs?

Re: What to buy?
My SV is great. For about half the price you could get the Captain8000HD throw a dongle at it and get IKS.
The cap will only get B3V HD but if things really sour in the near future at least you are only spending half the price.

First off welcome to the site! Second if your going to worry about the future, this hobby may not be for you. There will be down time. Best thing to do id not worry about it, and enjoy it while it lasts. It may be done next week, or maybe 10 years from now. Nothing is written in stone, and noboby knows the future. Third, I would recomend the SV8000. It has one of the best support teams (if not the best) and a great picture.
Have fun and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: What to buy?
still many reports of the captain 8000hd rebooting.so looks like they stil haven't gotten that issue fixed.to bad,its been a problem for quite awhile.hope they fix her up.
they say what helps is to not load the epg.and running iks is far less problematic.
but hey, cheap price for mpeg2hd.even with a few reboots here and there i guess.
for a nice mpeg4hd unit, that sonicview 8k seems to take the cake.
and did you know the sv 8k hd is also a pvr unit.and complete multimedia system?
you can download movies and stuff of the net, then convert them, to .ts files.
toss them on your external hdd and watch them hacked CAM movies still in theaters!!!
nah, just kidding.thats against the law, don't do that.but you could.......thats all im saying hehe
