Question Looking for a receiver with the following features...

I'm looking for a receiver to replace the one that was leased to me by DN.

My current STB:
  • is HD
  • is a dual tuner
  • PVR with internal hard drive
  • allows HD recording and playback
I would really REALLY prefer an internal hard drive for video storage, and I don't care if the box comes with one, or if I have to buy a drive separately and install it myself.

Does something like this exist? It seems like all of the PVRs I've read reviews for so far have required USB hard drives.

Oh, and I'd like for it to have a USB interface for updating firmware.

The only PVR I've seen so far with an internal drive is the Viewsat PVR 7000, which would be perfect if it were HD.

Why would you require an internal hard drive to make you happy?
Seems most all HD PVRs are external & if it were internal...you would be limited to the storage size.

Not only that...but, it reminds me of the TVs with a VCR built in.
Now if the VCR quits working...the whole TV is junk.

But with an external drive, you can upgrade to a larger memory or replace a defective drive without junking the whole unit. (and we are in the $400. range now / plus the module) without a drive

I'm not worried about running out of space. 1 terrabyte ought to do it, and I wont be storing anything long term. A hard drive is such a basic component, it just seems ridiculous to add the clutter of an external enclosure, usb and extra power cables just for some storage.

By your logic, maybe a receiver with built in PVR functionality is cheesy? Perhaps I should just get a plain jane HD STB and a separate DVR/Tivo for recording.

Dish Network's ViP 722 is what I'm using now. You would think that the higher end manufacturers would be able to compete on features.
