Re: Nfusion HD or Captiveworks 4000HD
Hi All
I'm starting to research the purchase of an HD box....
I have had a CW 600 for the last three years or so and am very happy with it...I have the 110W and 119W modules on the dish...not sure about all the technical terms ...I set this up in my office/den which is on the second floor.
I'm in the process of building a home theatre room in the basement. The wiring, drywall, paint and trim are in and the fireplace arrived yesterday and will be installed over the next few weeks...
That means come January I'm shopping for a 50 inch plasma 1080p and a blue ray....I'd also like to add a CW4000HD....if only because of my experience with the CW600...
I'm pretty tech savvy and I have an ethernet running in the house so I'm interested in hooking it up to the CW4000HD directly (and the blueray player or PS3)
Some questions
Do I have to get another dish or will the one I have now do? I suspect I'll need another dish with HD modules? If so which ones? Which Dish?
The optional hard drive? I have a couple of HD in good condition from my old computer which I just replaced.....I assume they'll work? I think its a 60Gb.
Is the process of replacing the bin file the same as with the CW600...though I assume since the box acts as a network device using the monitor I can map to my server and pull the file from there?

Re: Nfusion HD or Captiveworks 4000HD
I understand that you are tech savvy but the CW is a linux box and that is not the same as a pc or even a mac. The CW is a great box but it will be nothing like your CW600 If your house is wired for network I would recomend the nfusion HD better support and more uptime and you can do the updates right from the remote without needing to load files and also the new NAG3 problem is not a problem for nfusion HD and it is a little less money. IMHO

Re: Nfusion HD or Captiveworks 4000HD
Also the Nuvenio infusion HD doesn't have an HDMI port or support 1080p - I know that's not a big deal since we're only really seeing 720 p/1080i but it would nice to be forward compatible....and is the HD for PVR built in or does it map to a PC/server drive?

Re: Nfusion HD or Captiveworks 4000HD
That my friend is the bigger question and before you spend any money NAG3 is an
encryption method that only nfusion will work around.

Re: Nfusion HD or Captiveworks 4000HD
first the Nfusion does have HDMI and yes you are right about 1080p it will do 1080i right now only DN can do 1080p and that is a claim made by sales reps. And If you are going to get blu-ray that is it's own HDMI port for tru HD at 1080p. I have not looked at the specs for the CW in a long time I was looking to buy it. But then the nfusion came out. Yes the PVR on the nfusion is not great it is a work in progress you can record to EXT USB drive or IPPVR to your network drive. I have a NAS and it records all my movies to the same drive that my computer can access an my Tivo can access and my nfusion can access I can watch any show that I record to my drive in any room in my house all my HD TV'S are networked wth my Tivo's

Re: Nfusion HD or Captiveworks 4000HD
Okay, sorry when I looked it up i couldn't see the reference to the HDMI port...okay fair enough.
And yeah, I have a portable 80G USB drive which I don't use now I put in an HP home server, and an NAS 120 G which I also don't use much for the same reason so that could be a good solution there.....
Okay...thanks....
What about the dish questions?

Re: Nfusion HD or Captiveworks 4000HD
sorry about that I missed that part I assume that right now you have 110/119 with a DN500 DP pro that is a dish with two LNB you will need a dif dish one with three lnb 110/119/129 129 is the HD sat with the most HD channels.

Hey Bill,
Newbie here. Could you have a brief comment on the media player of the CW-4000hd? Besides the using it as a sat receiver, I am also interested in using it to access my DVD files (video_ts, mpeg ...) on my network drives or usb drives. I have not seen people talk much on those features/capabilities. Thnx,

Re: Nfusion HD or Captiveworks 4000HD
Off all the HD receivers discussed here what are up? I must admit i saw the CW4000HD spec and seems the best as it has lots of bells and whistles. No one mentioned IKS, as I guess it wasnt needed back in Jan. Any help would be appreciated.
