X-factor x-1 review
X-1 out of the box
This is a nice receiver if your looking to add 1 in a bedroom or play room. The remote isn't expandiable, you can't add the tv, dvd,or vcr codes to it. I turned off an update in the middle just to mess up the receiver and see it I could get it back up. I was able to add the factory flash with a rs323 null cable I had on hand. Their isn't 1 with the receiver so if you need to add the factory bin with the rs232, you will have to get 1 if you don't have 1 handy. The epg and the info are about the best I have seen on a unit, very sharp and full with info about the program you are watching, I'm very impressed with it. The picture is very clear and sharp on the tv, I couldn't tell the difference between my sonicview and the x-factor. The set-up of the receiver is very quick, with in 15 minutes I had it up and running, and I crashed it and got it back in about the same time frame.
The autoroll is not turned on so at the end of the setup you will have to enter the cas screen from the main menu and enter the advanced section to turn the autoroll on.
The receiver itself is a nice looking unit, I have a silver color that looks pretty sharp. The remote is very similar to the sonicview, it fits in your hand very nice with everything at easy access. It isn't a multi input remote, you can't add your tv to it, dvd or your vcr to it. I downloaded, unzipped and installed the 113 and the 139 files onto a usb stick. Powered on the unit and installed the usb stick from the main menu. Scroll down to tools, from the tools menu to "upgrade by usb". Upgrade by usb code is set to "all code", upgrade file can be scrolled using volume up or down on the remote. Set to the "113.abs" file and start the flash burn. After the receiver rebooted itself with the usb stick still in, it loaded back to the "upgrade by usb" menu. Change upgrade mode from the "all code" to the "main code" and the 139.bin file showed up on the "upgrade file" line. Scrolled down to the start, to upgrade to the latest bin. After the receiver rebooted with the usb stick in, exit on the remote to get to the main menu.
Setting up the antenna is very simple. From the installation menu, set your sats from the sat list, antenna setup has just the sats you checked so their is no looking for the sats to set up, it's all right there. Scroll to satellite search and make sure "multi search" is set to yes. The scanning is very fast and from looking through the channel list, I don't see anything missing.
System setup is your basic stuff, local time, parental lock, osd setting, tv system, language. I just set the time and didn't get into anything else just yet.
Everything in the tools section deals with the usb, rs232, factory setting, channel edit, and information. All these sections will be used, but not just right now.
The "cas" section has 1 setting you will have to update. In the advanced section you will have to switch the autoroll on.
Their is a small freeze that lasts about a minute, I seen it about 3 times in the 6 hours the receiver has been running. It seems to be a very nice receiver for a bedroom or play room where your not looking for an entertainment center.
More to come as I play and learn.
