Two receivers, one SD one HD. Possible?
Hey guys,
My current setup has my regular SD receiver (viewsat extreme) pointing to two Echostar sat's (I think their orientations are 119 and 110 -- though I don't remember off-hand). I was considering getting another receiver that is HD capable (most likely the sonicview 8000).
I was just wondering if it's possible to have both receivers hooked up to the same sattelite and view different channels.
I'm a little rusty with all all of this as I'm just getting back into the game, but if anyone could help me out and perhaps point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mo

Re: Two receivers, one SD one HD. Possible?
Depends on your LNBs. What type of LNBs do you have? If it has dual outputs, then there is no problem. You just run a second cable to your new receiver and you are all set.
Although you will get some HD channels, you will want to add another LNB to point to Echo 129 to get the full range of HD channels.

Re: Two receivers, one SD one HD. Possible?
if your really considering getting an HD reciever then you can either go with a second dish/lnb or you could pick up a 1000.2 dish and this comes with a ddplus lnb that will allow you to get 119/110/129 on a single dish. It will also allow you to run up to 3 recievers with no extra switches. You will even have the option to hook up a 4th. Let us know which way you wanna go and we will guide you through it. And let us know what lnbs you currently have so

Re: Two receivers, one SD one HD. Possible?
Thanks for the info guys, makes a lot more sense now.
So, I woke up, re-read what an LNB was (heh) then went to check. I'm not sure what type of LNB I have, but I guess I can explain my setup and maybe that will help.
I have two dishes, both pointing in different directions. Each dish has 1 LNB on it and has two wires coming out of the LNB/back of the dish. One wire from each LNB goes into a diseqc switch and the output of one of the diseqc switches goes to my current Viewsat extreme. The other two wires (1 from each LNB) are connected to a different diseqc switch but the output doesn't go anywhere (no cable attached) since i don't have another receiver.
Based on what I know, I should be able to send the output of the second diseqc switch to my new receiver and be able to receive all the same channels, is that correct?
Assuming all of that is good, I think my only consideration is whether or not to add another sattelite dish at the 129 orientation. Is there a place where I can see what channels to expect from each dish?
Thanks again.

Re: Two receivers, one SD one HD. Possible?
Yeah, disregard my question about what channels on which sats, I should have googled first (doh!).
In your opinions, since I already have two Sat's pointed at 110 and 119, would it make more sense to take those both down and put up the 1000.2 as mentioned earlier, or add another Sat/LNB and point it at 129?
Is there any difference in functionality, or is it simply a matter of cost vs. clutter?

Re: Two receivers, one SD one HD. Possible?
Hey Guys,
I appreciate all the info. I think I'm going to go with a dish that has 4 LNB's (two pointing to the Nimiq 1/2 sats and two pointing at 110 and 119 respectively).
I am in Canada and I don't want to get a huge dish just to receive the 129 feed. I think the HD channels on BEV should suit my needs.
Thanks again.

Re: Two receivers, one SD one HD. Possible?
getting 4 sats on an eliptical dish is very hard to do.. patience is a must..
Get a dish 1000.2 and receive 110,119,129 and then get another dish setup to receive 82, 91..
thats the ticket!!

Re: Two receivers, one SD one HD. Possible?
why is it so hard to do? It it because the sat must be in the exact position to receive all 4 signals? I suppose I could use Dish Pointer as a starting point.
I heard the 129 signal isn't very strong up here in the great white north and to receive it properly, I'd need a 30" plus dish. That's why I decided to go with BEV instead of trying to get HD from DishNetwork. Also, it has the added benefit of local channels being available.
