i have never had a problem with this setup, the second receiver has been able to control switches through the loop out port of the first.....but i have only tested a couple of different receivers this way, so your comment about different makes and models could be true.....

if both receivers are turned on then they both have to view the same satellite.....and one of them will only get H channels and the other one will only get V channels.....
