Dish Network axes Tennis Channel mid-Wimbledon

Smack in the middle of tennis' biggest fortnight, Wimbledon, Dish Network has axed carriage for at least some of its viewers via an apparent package change. (NASDAQISH)

Dish customer service personnel gave conflicting stories about what was up with Dish and the all tennis channel. They also refused to provide documentation regarding the Tennis Channel.
Viewers with Dish's "Silver Package" had been subscribed to the Tennis Channel for many months. But as of today, they were told they must subscribe to a pricier package to receive Tennis.

It also must have been a tough blow to advertisers on the Tennis Channel who were expecting strong viewership during Wimbledon's concluding week. Dish customer service wouldn't say how many viewers were effected, but it may have been more than a third of Dish subscribers.

Dish has long battled with specialty networks like Tennis over carriage and costs.
