If the EKS approach ever proves itself to be solid and is capable of being easily ported to a number of products, then $$$ will and should be no problem. That is of course after it has been developed, proven and tested on a large scale.

The challenge remains, getting it to the point where it can be reliably packaged for sale. This is where it seems to be now. People are not interested in funding the development of a car, they just want to drive the car.

I wrote this before. if you want free tv in a way,until they have a standalone fix, IKS,EKS,etc will be the only way to se tv. Nfusion,SV servers are free as more people join the servers cant have that mnay usersonline especially at prime TV. If you can send a donation to help out or just geta sub...

Great analogy guys. I think you all hit the nail on the head. I have a question though I should probably start a thread on it. Would you feel like paying for the services would make you feel like it is not free tv but a service you are buying, therefore, no legal issue should exist??

I agree, I would like to see the iPro up and solid, it has been a heart breaker for a lot of people for far too long. But so too is my SV4000, and there is little to smile about there currently, although the NASA channel has quickly become my fave.

If you pay or donate, you will find out that like all support can be up or can be down. Now if you donate, do you have a right to see the stb working in any provider. That something the coders,team need to apply. I rally like the Neo great hardware but like CG wrote many people got heartbroken, too many promises, still after all this is a hobby and there more you get into the more you going to spend.

When you ask for a donation in order to provide a service, especially a service where tens of thousands of users are relying on you, there's a greater responsibility than just paying the server's electric bills.
That's what I think a lot of users and coders are not understanding. If someone gives you money to provide a service, you'd better have awesome customer support. Like support that far exceeds their current status. That's your responsibility when you take someone's money, like it or not.
There's no way anyone should donate $100 to an unstable system until it's proven effective.
I agree with CG. Build a reliable car, then sell it. Don't sell me a steering wheel and 4 tires.

So why do you think there are all these delays? The team can always pull a SV/CNX and release IKS as is with lots of problems and fine-tune as they go along.

Nope, not EKS. It will be released when it's ready and stable. The problem with giving free trials is security. Since the server identifies your Neosat ipros using a string of keys, in order for the trial to work, that protection has to be turned off. Best thing is that each website will get to test EKS for free. If an unbiased mod says it's good enough to go, it should be good right?

I agree with you. EKS/IKS/iHub/etc all have very promising futures and each have their own unique strengths. but, all this gossip about release dates, functionality issues et. all needs to stop. that gossip is what's creating this whole stinkin' mess to begin with.
We know SV/AutoD/Kbox and all the others have tricks up their sleeves and will have something for the users. but users are putting on so much pressure for this fix that it's *almost* forcing coders to ship out crappy products. so, as users, we need to shut the "h-e-double hockey sticks" up and remember all the good things we have in life. like FTA.

iHub is on the market, so let's talk about it. but until the product has been introduced to the public (not beta), then don't talk about it. It just pisses people off cuz the average user is too impatient...they think the coders owe us something. I have a neo, and i'm pumped about EKS...but i'm also super annoyed at this point.

sorry i just ranted, but it needed to be said. it wasn't directed at any one person or group or manufacturer.

We all are anxious to get EKS out so I understand your frustration. After the whole v2 ordeal, it's expected of course. But nothing we can do but wait. At least, a few people have seen the "end" product and are super happy with it

It's just of "when" and not "if" now.

Ya right. And when you pay for a prostitute your just paying for her time. Or giving her a donation. Or a ride. Wont work in court. Anyone who signs up for this will get screwed.

I have to agree at least in principal since I have asked a few times on the EKS site how the payment thing is going to work and not be traced right back to the user. I have never received any kind of answer. This I find very troubling for the people that would be interested this close to a release date. You think they would have this firmly worked out first.

Agreed. We are talking about 2 large corporations. And they are not going to like that someone else is getting payed a subscription fee. Whether they call it a donation or not. And I think this might open the door for them to also sue sites like this. I think for the hobby this could be very dangerous.
