***new ipro/pro users start here*** FAQ by v2neo and tips

c/p

This FAQ covers entire aspect/features of neosat ipro 2000. This FAQ is based on using 3rd party software only and concentrates on that aspect. If using original factory bin please ignore this FAQ.

Please remember throught this FAQ I will assume that you know how to UNZIP files. All file which are zipped need to be unzipped before use. Also please remember that it is highly recommended that you FACTORY DEFAULT your unit after upgrading to a new bin file. It is not recommended to load factory bin file if your having issues. Instead just FACTORY DEFAULT or reload same file and Factory Default.

Section 1a ……… Upgrade via Rs232
Section 1b……… Upgrade via USB
Section 1c………. Upgrade via Network
Section 2a………….Troubleshooting network connections IKS
Section 2b………….Troubleshooting local network connection
Section 2c…………Wireless Network Setup
Section 3a……………Hard drive/PVR setup
Section 3b………….Detect drive on PC/codecs to play hard drive on pc/convert to dvd
Section 4a........Autoroll
Section 5..........lnb's switches and anetna setup
Section 5a........How to identify if you have a Legacy LNB or DPLNBF
Section 5b.......****ing Legacy Lnb’s
Section 5c.......****ing DPLNBF’s

Section 1A Upgrading bin file via rs232
Start up the unloader
1 Click on Ipro_loader.exe
2 On the top right choose correct com port (usually 1 or 2) than click OPEN
3 In the middle section you will see a box with “….” Click on that
4 In the new window that opens up you will be able to select the latest file Make sure the file is in .hzf format
5 Click on UPGRADE SOTWARE
6 Make sure you ipro is plugged into the power and has rs232 cable plugged in and turn it ON
7 You will see the update taking place
8 wait till the ipro2000 displays GOOD on its display
9 Power off the unit and plug it back to your tv
10 Remember to FACTORY DEFAULT your unit by going to MENU->Installation->Factory Default

Q&A

Q: When I click on Upgrade Software I see a message PORT NOT OPEN
A: You forgot to select your correct comport and click OPEN
Q: When I click on Upgrade Software on the bottom it says Waiting for Target and box doesn’t update
A: Power off/on the ipro2000 from switch on the back of the unit. Also its possible you have chosen wrong Com port for your PC

Section 1b Upgrade Via USB
It is very important to understand how the USB function works on ipro2000. Many users complain that the USB function doesn’t work when in reality they do not know how to use it. The file has to be in .hzf format and be on the ROOT of the usb memory stick for example:

E:\up.hzf

The E: is an example and can be any letter your windows assigns to the USB drive. Now the file name has to be up.hzf only if your using the usb stick to upgrade from a factory bin version. If your upgrading from 1.8X to current bin file than bin can be either up.hzf or up_V18x.hzf format.

Summary: File has to be on root drive X:\up.hzf and has to be named either up.hzf or up_V18X.hzf to work.

Next it is very important when you unplug a USB device to insure that you safely remove it. For example if you have a USB hard drive or another USB memory stick in your ipro2k go to MENU->STB SETUP->USB SETUP-> Remove USB device Safely
By doing this you insure not to have any problems when you connect another device.
IMPORTANT!!! When removing MEMORY STICK or USB HARD DRIVE DO NOT just unplug. CLICK USB button to remove safely. Also you can access the same screen by going to MENU->STB Setup->remove usb device safely. If you do not do this step than its possible for you to damage your usb device and also its possible that when you reinput a new device it is not detected properly.
Now your ready to upgrade via USB memory stick. Insert the device into the USB port. You will see a prompt asking you if you would like to upgrade. Click OK. On the next screen you will see another screen showing you the current version of your bin file and the one on the USB stick. Click OK again to continue with the upgrade. Your done.
Please remember that if you upgrading from a version to same version or lower version that NO PROMPT will be displayed. You will have to go to menu->installation->Upgrade by USB to upgrade to a lower version or to same version. The only time you will see a prompt is if your upgrading from a lower version to a higher version.
Remember to FACTORY DEFAULT your unit by going to MENU->Installation->Factory Default.
Your done

Section 1c Upgrade via Network
This is the easiest of all methods to use for upgrading. In this section I will cover not only the upgrading but also troubleshooting networking issues.
Go to menu->installation->Upgrade By network. You have 2 options either the RED button or Blue button. The red button checks for updates to see whats available. Click it and you will see the files which is hosted on the site and its version/description. If you would like to download it click the BLUE button and the download will start.
Remember to FACTORY DEFAULT your unit by going to MENU->Installation->Factory Default.

Your done

Section 2a Troubleshooting network connections IKS
Many times users state that there network connection is not working. Usually this is due to the fact they they unplug the Ethernet cable and than replugged it into the ipro and expect it work immediately. Just like windows when network cable is unplug and the replugged in to the box the ipro2k needs to get new IP address from your router than connect to our server. The easiest way to do this is to power off/on the ipro2k from the switch on the back.

You do not need to power off/on the unit if you would like to take a few extra steps. First off click the F4 button located in the hidden compartment of the remote. This will bring up the IKS panel. The status should state “login, ready for channel change” If you see any other status than click the Green button to disconnect than red button to reconnect to server. If you unit does not reconnect after 2 or 3 try’s than you have a problem with your local network.

Section 2b Troubleshooting local network connection
Go to menu->Stb setup->Network Setup
To check to see weather DHCP is working properly first change the type to STATIC, Click the RED button “apply” now change type back to DHCP and click Red button “apply” all numbers will turn BLANK and in 10 to 20 seconds the numbers should fill back in with correct DHCP information from your router. IF they number didn’t fill in after 20 seconds there is an issue with your router or your network cable.
How to setup IP information statically?
Using your computer with XP. Start up network connections (in control panel) In here you will see your current active network connections (you might have more than 1) double click one the active one which your computer is using. You will see Local are connection status screen. Click on support tab. Click on Details TAB. In this screen you will see all the ip information for you pc. Now using the information you see in this screen type the information into the ipro2k. Remember that the IP address can not be same as your computer so change the ip by adding 10 to it. For example if yoru computers ip is 192.168.1.101 than the ipros will be 192.168.1.111. All other fields (subnet, gateway, dns) will be same numbers on ipro2k as in your computer.

Section 2c…………Wireless Network Setup

cheapest setup i found so far PC Direct - Buy Computer Parts and Systems, Digital Cameras, MP3 Players, Electronics and More This is a wireless over RF works pretty good i think for most people and is cost effective. I suggest this option for most users. This option does not require for you to have a wireless router since both the emmiter and receiver are included and will work with wired router wirelessly.

here is another one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833162168 This is more costly but also can be used to extend your wireless home network as well as allowing your ipro to function wirelessly. This does require a wireless router as well to work with.

Here is another one Acortech.com - The Best Notebook computers Resources and Information. This website is for sale! This is pretty cost effective and works over your homes electrical lines to transmit data. Works fine provided your homes electrical wiring is not very outdated (grounded properly). Might cause some conflicts though so id suggest one of the 2 options above unless your confident about your home electrical wiring. This option does not require a wireless router.

Section 3a……………Hard drive/PVR setup

Remember if you had any USB device plugged into the USB port to click the USB button on remote located in the (hidden compartment) to remove it “safely” prior to unplugging it. If you do not do this than you might have an issue using a new device.
If this is the first time you are pluggin in a hard drive Go to MENU->PVR->PVR SETUP-> HDD format and click OK. The format process can take from 5 seconds up to 3 minutes. After format is done you should see the total HDD size and the Free HDD Space. If your still having problems with your hard drive than use a partition utility such as partition magic to format the hard drive into Linux EXT2 format. you can also use gparted to accomplish this task. partition magic :
http://www.abadss.com/forum/802-neos...ion-magic.html

If you have previously used this hard drive with ipro and you are Replugging it in than first off insure that you disconnected the previous device properly by clicking the USB button than just replug the hard drive in. To check if the installation went smoothly you can go to MENU->PVR->PVR SETUP if Total HDD size and Free HDD Space is displayed than you are ready to use your PVR. If it states on the right side “please wait while your hard drive is being initialized” than wait up to 3 minutes. If its not detected than try to power off/on your unit from the back switch

Section 3b………….Detect drive on PC/codecs to play hard drive on pc/convert to dvd

Use this program to detect your hd if you are using windows xp.

Also here is the K-Lite codec v2 was saying to use to play back video with media player.
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...Codec_Pack.htm

And here is a nice program to convert your recordings to dvd.

Section 4a........Autoroll

Simple steps for manually enter keyts for bev/dish
And for Turn on/off autoroll

Bev

While on a bev channel
Hit F3 on remote
Only enter active key in the two lines
turning on/off autoroll in there as well

Dish

while on a dish channel
Hit F3 on remote
Only enter active key in the two lines
turning on/off autoroll in there as well

You may also click the green button to update keys by network (For this to function you must have internet wire plugged into ipro) or the red buttont o update the keys via (For this to function you must have internet wire plugged into ipro and have serial keys entered)

Section 5..........lnb's switches and anetna setup

Most problems people have with antenna setup has to do with the fact of not knowing what type of LNB’s or switches are being used. Ipro2000 has the ability to setup proper lnb’s and switches automatically provided you are using dish network lnb’s and switches. What does this mean? This means that the LNB’s you have on the dish are the types used by dish network for their installations. All lnb’s and switches will be labeled as Dish Network or Dish Pro or DP on them. If you had your installation done by a dish network installer all equipment is dish network. If you had a private party installer install your dish for you, than you should find out from him what type of lnb’s and switches were used.
This FAQ is meant to have a basic setup for a novice user. I know I have not covered all equipment and all different possibilities of setting up equipment. But im assuming if you are using other equipment that you have the knowledge/expertise of setting up the unit yourself. If not ask in our forum site.

Section 5a........How to identify if you have a Legacy LNB or DPLNBF

look here to see what kind of lnb you have with pics!:
http://www.abadss.com/forum/29-lnb-d...-pictures.html
How to identify if you have a Legacy LNB or DPLNBF
There are 2 types of lnb’s used by dish network. Legacy (older style) or DPLNBF. IT is very simple to identify what type of LNB’s you have. Look at the LNB’s back side and you will notice either “dish network, or DP, or Dish Pro, Or DP PLUS, or Dish Pro Plus”
If you have “DISH NETWORK” on the lnb than you have LEGACY lnbf
If you have “DP, or Dish Pro, or Dish Pro Plus, or DP PLUS” you have a DPLNBF.
Remember if your using switches that DP switches only work with DPLNBF and SW switches only work with Legacy switches. (Reminder if you had a dish network installer install your dish for you than all equipment used is properly matched)

Ok this being said. If you have all dish network lnb’s equipment and they are installed properly according to dish network standards/installer than ipro2k auto setup will work perfectly for you without you have to know a thing about antenna setup/configuration. If not please read below.

Section 5b......****ing Legacy Lnb’s

Using Legacy Lnb’s. (lnbs which state DISH NETWORK on the backside of them) difference between twin/quad is how many coax output are on the lnb, twin has 2, quad has 4.
When using Twin/Quad Legacy Lnb’s for 110,119 without any switches all you have to do is run 1 wire from the lnb to the ipro2k.

Antenna setup
110 Legacy twin/quad 2.
119 Legacy twin/quad1.

If you have sw21 switch as well for use with 148,121, or 61.5 than you would have to run 1 wire from twin/quad legacy lnb to sw21 input1 and 1 wire from 148/121/61.5 to sw21 input2. From output of sw21 run 1 wire to ipro2k

Antenna setup
110 legacy twin/quad 2 sw1
119 legacy twin/quad 1 sw1
148/121/61.5 legacy twin/quad 1 sw2 (this lnb is a single legacy lnb)

Section 5c......****ing DPLNBF’s

DPLNBF’s (lnb’s which state DP, Dish Pro, DP PLUS, DISH PRO PLUS on the back side)
If you’re using twin DPLNBF for 110,119 only than all you have to do is run 1 wire down from the dplnbf to ipro2k.

Antenna Settings

119 DPLNBF diseq port1
110 DPLNBF diseq port 2

If you’re using DP PLUS lnb to catch 110,119, 148/121/61.5 than all you have to do is run 1 wire from the 148/121/61.5 to the input of the twin DP PLUS LNB. From the DP PLUS LNB run 1 wire down to the ipro2k.

Settings:
119: DPLNBF diseq port 1
110: DPLNBF diseq port 2
61.5/121/148 DPLNBF diseq port 3

If your using dp34 switch along with dplnbf to catch 110,119,148/121/61.5 all you have to do is run 2 wires down from twin dplnbf(2 singles dlnbfs will also work) to port 1 and 2 (if you’re using single dplnbf make sure to plug in 119 to port 1 and 110 to port 2) of dp34. From 148/121/61.5 run a 1 wire down to the port 3 of dp34. Insure all LNB’s are DP lnb’s

Antenna Settings
119 DPLNBF diseq1
110 DPLNBF diseq2
148/121/61.5 DPLNBF diseq3

Exclamation Hot keys for neosat ipro2000

F1 since info bar of ipro2k only displays epg/time data and omits satelite signal info etc... f1 is used for troubleshooting. If for somereasons your not getting picture you can click f1 to see weather you have signal/quality

F2 reserved for future use

F3
1.enable/disable autoroll.
2. Input keys manualy. The way the ipro2k works it only want you to input the CURRENT ACTIVE KEY. Also if you want to enter key for a specific provider you have to tune to a channel of that provider than click f3 and input the key
3. Ts Delay is used for IKS buffering. To eliminated freezing which was a big problem with ipro1k we have implemented a new feature TS delay. What this does is record the raw stream up to 10 seconds than wait for CW from IKS server to arrive to display the image. For example if your experiancing freezing while on IKS than try to raise the TS daly to 1 or 2 if your still having freezing issues rais it all the way up to 10. in our field tests most users on good connections should leave this on 0 and in worse cases a setting of 2 or 3 is sufficient
4. Box key this is used if you were going to use a card which is married to ird. In this field you can input the IRD serial number and ipro2k can handle that card. For example if you have SKY mexico card and would like to use it on ipro2k than you have to input the IRD key in this field which that card is married to

F4 Brings up IKS related fields.
1 Server field is reserved for future use
2 Serial key (in case you didnt input the serial key during auto setup you can input it in here) without the proper serial key IKS will not function
3. Status Displays the status of connection to IKS server
4. Key: display the current CW or Key of the SID received from IKS server

hope this helps out the testers (btw dont IKS server is only used by beta testers at the moment expect for it to be on monday)

running iks via edge (cell connection)/IKS via dial up info

c/p

OK folks,

For those of you who live out in the boonies and don't have access to broadband, there is a solution for you.

I tested out a cellular connection (edge) at about 128 kpbs and it worked for SKY IKS!

What you need:
1- laptop
2- pcmcia edge card (consult your cell provider)
3- Windows XP
4- cross over cable or hub.

First set up your laptop so you can browse the internet using the edge connection. Next configure the edge connection to be shared via windows internet connection sharing. Make sure you select the correct connection to share.
Next connect your laptop via it's lan port to a hub with a straight thru cable or directly to the ipro using a cross over ethernet cable.

Windows should assign the ipro an ip or you can manually configure the ip. Generally windows sharing uses 192.168.0.1 as the ip of the dhcp so you can put 192.168.0.2 for the ipro. submask 255.255.255.0, gateway place the ip of your edge connection and dns place the dns ips of your edge connection (you can easily see this by clicking on the task bar icon and looking under the support tab and then under details).

This may sound a bit complicated, but if you have cell reception and your company can give you an edge card for a laptop (see sony ericsson GC-89)
you can make the ipro run IKS virtually anywhere.

running iks via dialup

c/p

Like stated before during the past 1 year. IKS will run on DIALUP or any other sort of internet service you like. The data being sent is extremly small under 80 bits which is roughly 10 bytes every 15 seconds (compared to 56kbps dial up modem which which is 7000 bits a second) so basicly in 1 second we are sending 10 bits every 15 seconds when a dial up connection can handle 7000 bits a second. This being said the main factor in IKS is LATENCY. Dial ups usualy have very high latency. But if you have a good ISP than you should have no issues with even dial up.

To use dialup to run IKS you need one of 2 things

1. dialup router
or
2. computer with dialup modem and lan card

1. to use dial up router configure it as normal use router with any ISP of yoru choice to be used with your computer. run a 2nd wire to your ipro2.
2. to use a computer with dialup modem and lan card. Connect your compmuter via dialup connection. Enable sharing of network via your lan card and your ipro (make sure its cross over cable) if you can set up DHCP on your PC than do so. If not, staticly assign IP to your LAN on pc and do so the same for ipro.

enjoy

v2

PS the meoths above will work with any sort of internet connection including but not limited to dialup, isdn, dsl, cable modem, satelite, EVDO, Edge, Wimax, Wifi etc....

WHAT IS IKS?- brief explanation

c/p by skygrabber:
WHAT IS IKS?- brief explanation

IKS is a backup system revolution for fta. It was brought to us thanks to the knowledge of coders like V2 and Dr T.

Basically it is a system that via the internet sends the information you need to open a channel and view it.

You must have your receiver hooked up to an "always on" internet connection, the most common of which is cable or dsl.

When you first get the ipro, you need to check the receiver packaging box or the bottom of the receiver itself and look for a 23 character key. its format is like this XXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXXX.

When you run the installation wizard and follow the onscreen instructions you will come to a screen that allows you to enter this key.

this serial key is your access to get the information via the internet to open up channels.

You can connect the ipro to a router via a lan patch cable if your tv is near your cable modem and router. The other choice is to have wireless router and purchase a wireless Ethernet bridge (do a search on amazon for these words and you should find several models there). Your router should be setup to run DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) which assigns ip and other pertinent information to pcs and other internet devices so they can get on the internet.

If you set this up properly, then you should be able to get tv using the IKS system.

end c/p
iks= Internet Key Sharing.

how to use an EMP-centauri 8x1 diseqc with your ipro

how to use an EMP-centauri 8x1 diseqc with your ipro

an easy way to combine 8 legacy lnbs to your ipro is by using an emp 8x1 GOTO switch.
the ipro does not use diseqc 1.1 commands,so you will not use diseqc ports.leave all diseqc ports off.

go through your wizard as normal.but do not do the auto detect at the end.since this is not dn equipment and is not to be setup as a switch.

first, plug in all your lnbs outside into the switch.as always you do not want to blow your diseqc.so always remember to have the stbs rear switch turned off while un/hooking cables.this switch set you back around $50.00 so you don't want to blow it.

next go to antenna settings.find each bird your pointed at and follow these instructions:

scroll down to motor control and select diseqc 1.2

scroll down to position and press left/right until the bird your setting up (on the left side) matches the bird found (on the right side)

next simply press ok to store the position.then your ready to scan.(note:multi scan is not selectable while using motor controls of course.so scan each individually)

very simple way to combine up to 8 lnbs into your ipro, setup and scan.
enjoy
(this switch is basically setup the same way for all units without diseqc 1.1 commands)

My network is set up properly. I am using static IP and I am able to ping the iPro box correctly. But I NEVER see any connection established in my NAT router/DSL box originating from iPro's IP.

Could you please tell me what's wrong. Perhaps the connection fails very early, during DNS resolution and that's why I don't see any TCP/UDP connection initiated from the box? But I should see at least connections going out to port 53 to my ISP's DNS server, right?

I would like to know more technical details about the HIKS - which destination port is the neosat box trying to connect to AND if all the connections are always outbound ones (in other words, always initiated from the box to outside, not the vice-versa).

Basically I wish to know how can I debug my issue and to know if the box is firewall/nat friendly (for example by not having an UDP/TCP protocol whereas a second connection is initiated by the IKS server itself and tries to contact my box because its private IP would be transmitted inside the protocol - a thing which would reflect a very BAD design IMHO).

The solution that I found is to use the "change MAC address" option. This seems to clear somehow the neosat's internal ARP cache and it will be able to connect to the IKS servers properly.
