Exclamation How to setup wireless internet for ipro2k

cheapest setup i found so far http://www.pcdirect.com/product.asp?...LT-965149-0403

This is a wirless over RF works perty good i think for most people and is cost effective. I sugest this option for most users.

here is another one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833162168

This is more costly but also can be used to extend your wirless home network at same time fixing your ipro.

and another one http://www.acortech.com/Xterasys_XPL...d-3202530.html

This is perty cost effective and works over your homes electrical lines to transmit data. Works fine provided your homes electrical wiring is not very outdated (grounded properly). Might cause some conflicts though so id sugest one of the 2 optoins above unless your confident about your home electircal wiring.

thanx

Re: How to setup wireless internet for ipro2k

c/p from a_male101

Here's how my setup works.
Most of my computers are wireless in my home.
I wanted my Set Top Box (STB) to be wireless as well so I didn't have to string a cord 150 ft to my router.
I obtained a wireless game adapter and set it up using a laptop computer with a ethernet port. (Cat 5e cable).(any computer with a wired port will work).
Then after testing the game adapter with the laptop to insure it would surf I connected to my STB .
I followed instructions I found on more than one website and played with settings. I found that DHCP works well and also I can use it Static. (set the IP settings myself).
Number one thing I found was test your connection with a computer of some kind before connecting to the STB .
If you have connectivity on the computer then you should be able to get connectivity on your STB , unless of course you have a bad port on your STB.

Other ways I have tested include using a laptop with a wireless network card and an ethernet port and sharing the connections. (this takes knowledge of just how to do this as you will may have to use static settings on your ethernet port on your laptop and your STB.

Dial-up can be done with either a windows 98 se(using internet sharing) or above desktop/laptop.
I've completed an install using an old laptop that was a throw-away p133 with 32 megs of ram with win98se.

Using a card from a Cell phone carrier can be done as well if you run thru a computer.

Nothing like dedicating an old throw away for this.

To check your local IP settings you can do it a few different ways.
in xp.
1. start
2. control panel
3. network connections
4. click support tab

most windows operating systems allow you to do it this way.
1. start
2. run
3. in the run window type command
4. when the black dos window opens type ipconfig
usually you will get a number like IP 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.100 something of that nature for the first line.
second line will look like this Netmask 255.255.255.0
next line will look like this gateway 192.168.1.254 or 192.168.1.1.

some router use 192.168.100.1 as well especially if connected to a cable modem.

the gateway is important if you want to go in and manually adjust your router settings. Be careful what you do there.
If you want to go into your router settings then
1. open your browser (internet explorer) *(netscape) *(firefox)
2. type in the address window h t t p: // 192.168.1.1 or
192.168.1.254 whatever the number is from the gateway address.
3. it will ask for you username and password.
Defaults for username include ; admin , user, and blank. check the website of the router if unsure.
Defaults for password include ; admin, blank, password, and such. check website if unsure.
Most people won't need to get in the router but just in case.

I hope this helps a lot of people. I've probably over simplified it for a lot , but , it may be more helpful to the people that don't know quite as much about computers, routers, modems and such.

COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS FOR WIRELESS ETHERNET BRIDGE SETUP

The following procedure is to get the Vikosmo Ethernet Bridge ready to use in bridge mode.

This procedure must be performed by the customer because every wireless home network has some unique properties. During this procedure, you will be hooking the Bridge up to your computer to manually make changes to it's software. To do so, the following step-by-step instructions as these will guide you through how to make changes to your PC in order for it to communicate with the bridge, how to customize the bridge to your network, and finally, how to reset your computer to its original condition. These instructions should take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
  1. Connect the wireless bridge to your computer with an ethernet cable and plug it into a power outlet. Note: we will not be hooking the bridge up to the router during this procedure, only the computer and the ethernet enabled device you wish to add to your wireless network.

  2. a) FOR WINDOWS XP, go to your Local Area Connection properties. (Start - Control Panel - Network Connections - Right click Local area connection and choose properties.)
    B) FOR WINDOWS VISTA, go to your Local Area Connection properties. (Start - Control Panel - Network and Sharing Center.)To access the connection properties, click on VIEW STATUS next to the local connection and click on properties.

  3. a) FOR WINDOWS XP,Double click on internet protocal (TCP/IP)
    B) FOR WINDOWS VISTA, Double click on internet protocal version 4.
  4. Set your IP Address to 192.168.1.20 and your subnet to 255.255.255.0 by enabling radio button "use the following ip address"
  5. Click OK to exit the TCP/IP Properties window, then click ok again to exit
the Local Area Connection properties window and save your changes.
  6. Open Internet Explorer Browser and in the Address bar type 192.168.1.253 to
access the Ethernet bridge settings. NOTE: YOU WILL NOT HAVE INTERNET ACCESS AT THIS TIME, AND UNTIL ALL STEPS ARE COMPLETED.
  7. Enter the username and password when prompted. (Your username and password
are written on the bottom of the ethernet bridge.)
  8. Click on the "Lan Settings" menu item on the left hand side.
  9. Some routers use a number other than 1 in the 3rd octet of their ip address. Example: 192.168.2.x . If your router uses a 1, then proceed to step 14, otherwise continue to the next step.
  10. On the Lan Settings screen change the bridges IP address to the same range as
your wireless routers IP range. (The bridge IP is 192.168.1.253 by default, so for
example, if your wireless routers IP address is 192.168.2.1, then your would want to
change the number in the 3rd octet to 2, making your Ethernet bridges IP 192.168.2.253)
  11. Click apply changes, this will disconnect you from the bridge.
  12. Follow steps 1 - 4 again, substituting the new IP range instead. (For example, if you
changed the bridges IP to 192.168.2.253, then you will want to change your Local Area
Connection IP to 192.168.2.20 instead of 192.168.1.20)
  13. Open the Ethernet Bridge's configuration page again in Internet Explorer (like in step 6), by using it's new IP address.
  14. Click on the "Wireless" menu on the left, and choose "basic settings".
  15. Click on the dropdown menu for MODE: and select CLIENT.
  16. Click on apply changes, and when the page reloads, click on "OK" to continue.
  17. Click on the Site Survey button and a new page will appear in a new instance of Internet Explorer.
  18. In this new page, click on REFRESH, your wireless network should show up in the list. If you are using security for your wireless network, skip ahead to step 24.
  19. Select radio button for your wireless network in the far right column and then click connect. When the page reloads, click "OK" to continue and close this smaller page when it reloads with your network site survey.
  20. Click the "apply changes" button at the bottom. When the page reloads, you may close the Internet Explorer.

  21. a) FOR WINDOWS XP, go to your Local Area Connection properties. (Start - Control Panel - Network Connections - Right click Local area connection and choose properties.)
    B) FOR WINDOWS VISTA, go to your Local Area Connection properties. (Start - Control Panel - Network and Sharing Center.) To access the connection properties, click on VIEW STATUS next to the local connection and click on properties.

  22. a) FOR WINDOWS XP, Double click on internet protocol (TCP/IP)
    B) FOR WINDOWS VISTA, Double click on internet protocol version 4.
  23. Click the radio buttons for "obtain ip address automatically" and "obtain dns server address automatically". Click okay at the bottom to close this window, and repeat for the next window.

Your ethernet bridge is now setup to be used. Windows Vista may need to be rebooted if you would like to test the bridge with your pc, otherwise, disconnect the bridge from your computer and plug it into the target device. Remember to power off the device before hooking the bridge up to it and powering the bridge up.

This Section is for those that have a secured Network:
  24. On step 18, when you clicked Refresh, it should show your wireless network.
Here it will tell you what type of encryption you have. Make a note of this and close this new browser.
  25. On the main setup screen to the left, click on the security menu. Choose the type of security you are using for your network. (WEP, WPA, ETC.)
  26. If your security type is WEP, click on the "Set Wep Key" button and fill in all relevant information, save it and close the pop-up browser. If using any other security type, fill in your pass phrase or security code in the main explorer and click apply.
  27. Go back to the Wireless Basic Settings page and click on the Site Survey button and a new page will appear in a new instance of Internet Explorer.
  28. In this new page, click on REFRESH, your wireless network should show up in the list.
  29. Select radio button for your wireless network in the far right column and then click connect. When the page reloads, click "OK" to continue and close this smaller page when it reloads with your network site survey.
  30. Click the "apply changes" button at the bottom. When the page reloads, you may close the Internet Explorer.

  31. a) FOR WINDOWS XP, go to your Local Area Connection properties. (Start - Control Panel - Network Connections - Right click Local area connection and choose properties.)
    B) FOR WINDOWS VISTA, go to your Local Area Connection properties. (Start - Control Panel - Network and Sharing Center.) To access the connection properties, click on VIEW STATUS next to the local connection and click on properties

  32. a) FOR WINDOWS XP, Double click on internet protocol (TCP/IP)
    B) FOR WINDOWS VISTA, Double click on internet protocol version 4.
  33. Click the radio buttons for both "obtain ip address automatically" and "obtain dns server address automatically".

Near the PC/Router you would plug one of the XE102's in to an AC (Wall) outlet (not a power bar) then connect the XE102 to your router via a short piece of straight through LAN cable.

At the TV end of things, you would plug in the other XE102 (again in to an AC (Wall) outlet (not a power bar) then connect the XE102 to your Neosat via a short piece of straight through LAN cable.

Instant Network!

The XE102's utilize the copper wire in your walls to piggy back the signals from the router and deliver them to the nfusion as needed) making this a psuedo 'wireless' solution.

Best of all, they are very easy to work with and are a very neat and tidy solution to your application.

Trust me, they work great!
