IKS module setup tips in laymans terms
I have posted this before, it's hidden in some other threads. You won't read some of this in the instructions that came with your pro 2000. I learned much of this the hard way playing with this thing and thought I'd share what I have learned. This took a long time to type, and I really hope someone will "sticky" it.
**************************************************
When you first set up this IKS adapter module, you need to be certain that your ethernet connection is working. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with your computer. In fact, your computer can be turned off while you are using your receiver. My ethernet connection worked without having to coax it so I didn't have to troubleshoot that, which is a good thing, b/c I don't understand computer related things very well.
*The most important thing to remember is that everytime after you power down the receiver from the rear switch, THE IKS MODULE ADAPTER NEEDS TO INITIALIZE WITH THE RECEIVER UPON BOOT UP.*
Otherwise, it will not communicate properly with the receiver. In order to do this, you MUST unplug it from the power source and then plug it back in FIRST before powering up the receiver. (That is the only wire that needs to be unplugged and plugged back in again). You will see the steady RED light on the top at first......wait until it turns steady GREEN, and THEN power up the receiver with the master switch on the back. After the receiver is done booting up and it initializes with the adapter, the green light on the adapter will begin flashing. It should remain flashing green all the time as long as it's plugged in and the receiver is connected to power. This includes when it's off (but not powered down from the switch on the rear).
After these are initialized, you can press the F4 button under the sliding door on the remote, and you should see the set of 4 module SERIAL NUMBER KEYS in the tv picture (these are not the same thing as the keys the receiver uses to decode encrypted channels). These should match the numbers on the sticker that should be on the underside of the IKS adapter. If the numbers are missing on the F4 screen, it was not set up and saved properly and the numbers will have to be re-entered.
REMEMBER....IF THE TWO UNITS DIDN'T INITIALIZE PROPERLY, THE SERIAL NUMBER KEY CODE WILL NOT SHOW UP. IF THEY WERE SAVED PROPERLY YOU WON'T NEED TO RE-ENTER THEM. THAT'S WHY RE-STARTING THIS THING CORRECTLY IS SO IMPORTANT.
TO SAVE THE NUMBERS PROPERLY.....in order for the serial number key code to get saved to memory upon the receiver setup, after entering the entire set of 4 serial keys, you MUST press the yellow button afterwards on the remote to save them to memory.
AND then immediately after doing that, in the F4 screen, press the green button to disconnect (it will display the message * "disconnected by user" *) and then press the red button to re-connect. (it will then say * "ethernet started" *). If you do not do these two things, the serial keys may not get saved and after shutting down with the rear switch, you will have to re- enter them all over again. That's a real pain, and a job you only want to do once unless you have a real good memory for long codes.
Once it connects to the internet, and this can take a few minutes, it may say * "server connecting" * first and then * "login, ready for channel change" *. You may have to re-try this 2 or 3 times for it to work. If that logged in message doesn't appear, or it gets hung up on "ethernet started" that means the adapter and the receiver are not working together and you will have to power down both units and re-boot them as described above.
OR.......it also could be that the ethernet is not working correctly. Remember, when you plug in the ethernet cable to the adapter, or power down the router, it takes a few minutes for it to connect to the server and establish an IP address.
*IF THE NUMBERS ON THE F4 SCREEN ALL SHOW UP AS XXXXXX THAT MEANS THEY WERE NOT SAVED. You should see the actual serial code on that screen each and every time you check it.*
**************************************************
Here's how to test the IKS internet connection to check and see if it is in fact connected to the internet and able to communicate with server 1. (which for now should always be set to SERVER 1) :
First make sure you have the message * "login, ready for channel change" * in the F4 screen. If it's there, then press the MENU button on the remote. Click ok on "receiver setup". Then click on "network setup". You will see a a highlighted box near the top of the screen that indicates the type is "DCHP". Change that to "STATIC" and press the RED button on the remote to apply it. Then set it back to "DCHP" and again click the red button to apply it.
All the numbers below it should go blank, and then within about 10 or 20 seconds they should fill back in again. If they don't, that proves you have a router/network cable problem and your IKS feature is not operational.
*Sometimes by unplugging the router and plugging it back in again it will correct a network related problem. If you need to do this you should do it before starting up your receiver.*
**************************************************
I really hope this information makes sense and helps those who don't understand how this persnickety little gadget works, I know b/c I was there and lost a lot of hair figuring this all out. I guess I've been very lucky, knock on wood, that my hardware issues were all ok and my setup worked so that I was able to experiment and learn this so that I could share it here. Good luck with your Pro receiver........it is a very well engineered unit that will work very well when set up right.
