Re: report your pvr results here
I have a cheap IN LINE dvd recorder 12 hours of saving time and 1-2-4-6-8 hours of recording and that can be divided up and put on dvd-dvdrw. Naturally putting 1 hour of programing will be better quality than putting 8 hours of programing on 1 dvd. everything going to A/V receiver i can save on recorder while i watch tv from box hooked up to TV on video input 2. Then when i am not doing any type of dvr function i watch everything thru A/V receiver on vedeo 1 input. This is my DVR-PVR setup.

I don't have any way of testing this, but I wonder if your data throughput isn't quick enough? The CW800 manual didn't have much for requirements, but I see other PVRs require a 7200 RPM drive and full USB 2.0 throughput. Some cheaper thumb drives don't have true 2.0 support, and a small WD drive like that may only be 5800 RPM. I get the occasional small burp with my 7200 RPM, USB 2.0 drive on both the CW800 and my Coolsat.

Re: report your pvr results here
From what i've read it looks like im not the only one using a western digital 250 gb hdd. So im guessing they came out of a DN dvr like mine did? lol. I agree it's not the same as dish's dvr but after a little getting used it'll be great. Time to go watch Jerry w/o the bleeps

Plugged in my 120gb external drive and recording is a breeze. RW/FF not so much.

Re: report your pvr results here
as everybody knows, but don't like to talk about, the 800 is full of memory leaks. Now don't get me wrong just because something has memory leaks doesn't mean it is bad... firefox 2 had huge memory leaks but I still used it.
The 800 is kinda like a special ed kid... go slow with it, don't confuse it by going to fast and it'll do wut u tell it to. In other words after you hit a button on the remote, wait for the box to respond without hitting another button or it'll freeze up on you.

Hey massive, Have a seagate 500 gb hooked up to my cw 800 and haven't cursed at it yet. Recorded the last UFC fight and the quality was great. Especially coming from a dollar store svideo cable. Only thing is converting my movies to mpeg and getting the proper video size settings.

Re: report your pvr results here
I love this receiver and the pvr however the glitch I run into is after it records , when I go back to watch what is recorded the voices are not in sync with the video. I have to play around with FF, RW or Pause in no exact sequence to correct. After that , all good, unless I pause then have to fool around again
This is with 4gb flash 2.0 and a HDD 40gb HDD
Any suggestions?..
Thank You

a good trick to use without getting the audio out of sync is to push f1 then skip forward however far you want. I usually skip forward about 4 minutes on commercials by pushing 400.

Re: report your pvr results here
CW-800 works great! I only use a 16GB flash stick, but it works great! The brand is an OCZ diesel...just in case someone wanted to know. Anyway, I just plug it in, and then press record.......simple as that, and have yet to have a problem.

I had a similar problem until I did a hard reboot (the switch on the back.) After that, it worked properly.

tizic,
I have a Seagate FreeAgent 500 gb hooked up that I got last weekend. I've not had any luck recording off the EPG when I'm not around (timer recording I guess). Have you been able to do this? Did you have to turn off the Standby mode in your drive?
Any help or ideas would be great. Thanks!

Re: report your pvr results here
Hey caverchris, 1st your your freeagent should be formatted to fat32 for your cw 800 to read it your hdd, 2nd You should turn the power saver to off (never) in the options. 3rd Make sure you sure cw800 pvr is on beacuse it won't record when its off. Follow these steps and u should be alright, if not just holla back.

Re: report your pvr results here
I actually found a NTFS thread so I won't repeat it all here but NTFS is working on my CW-800. Did the other stuff now it's working fine, thanks tizic. For anyone interested here is the NTFS/CW-800 thread: http://www.abadss.com/forum/807-cw-8...-cw-units.html

Re: report your pvr results here
I originally had a generic HD hooked up to my CW800 with mixed results. It always worked with manual recording but I often had problems playing back recordings scheduled from the epg. I eventually gave up on the PVR function as I decided to use my HD with another receiver which worked flawlessly with the same HD.
Recently, I started using an 8GB Kingston Data Traveler with my CW800 and it's been working flawlessly. I'm not sure if this is due to improvements in the bins or if the CW800 works better with my flash drive than with my HD.
I agree FF and RW is a bit crude. The other feature I would really like is to be able to set bookmarks in a recording. Often, I am unable to watch a complete recording without interruption. I find it frustrating to have to FF half the way through a program to reach the point where I stopped watching.
It may not be the best PVR but it works for me.
