Re: report your pvr results here
Greatings
I think the PVR is an awsome feature of the CW-800S, that really sells this unit.
however, most of these functions are not really very intuitive, or perhaps not very clearly explained in any document or post I've seen so far.
Recording Events are volatile, in that when the unit is shut off, events do wake up the unit, at the expected time and channel, but, it doesn't record them, I may have too much wishful thinking in me, but, it would be very nice if it would wakeup and record the event and then automatically turn off the STB to save energy and useful life of the unit.
I'm not trying to bash the coders in anyway, simply positive criticism, I guess I was just used to DN DVR recorder features, hence I was expecting something similar, but hey, I think though it may take some getting used to, once you get familiar with its tiny quirks, it's all in all quite a nifty li'l feature.

Re: report your pvr results here
I'm using a TrekStor 320 GB USB 2.0 drive that I bought from FutureShop. It doesn't have a power saving mode and worked well with my CoolSat. I've recorded a couple shows on it off the CW800 now, and it appears to be working very well.
The only issue I had was formatting. I used the format from the receiver, and while it did format the drive, it hung the receiver. I had to cold boot it. Otherwise, its been fine. I'll report back when I've recorded a few more shows...

Re: report your pvr results here
I'm sorry, I forgot to mention my HDD
I'm using an 250 Western Digital w/o power-save, I didn't use the Format feature in the CW-800S, I formated FAT32 prior to using it on the CW-800S by installing it on my desktop PC ATAPI bus as a secondary drive and I used CompuApps SwissKnife V3. and I've had no problems whatsoever.

Re: report your pvr results here
I use a Kingston 4gb USB Flash drive.
PVR works very well for what it's worth I click record and it starts recording live TV. I go to guide and am able to schedule recording easily.
Time-shifting works well. Just hit PAUSE and it pauses live TV and start recording for you. The only real problem I have is the bad REWIND/FASTFORWARD function. It's horrible.
Video/audio quality is very good. Just like live TV.
Being able to watch something and record another program on a different chan (has to be on the same TP though) is pretty cool as well.

Re: report your pvr results here
Yep, I also agree with you all, the FFW / FRW is a bit quirky, but it works. just gotta get the hang of it, trial and error, thus I believe it might be possible to improve it's performance.

Re: report your pvr results here
I don't even use PVR that often. I just download the stuff that I miss Much better quality hehe. Wish the CW700 were out when I bought my CW800. CW700 looks better and is cheaper with USB in front hehe.

Re: report your pvr results here
After a couple weeks of using the TrekStor, its worked very well with both my CaptiveWorks and my Coolsat. Not sure about longevity versus mainstream drives like WD or Seagate, but the price is cheap enough ($70 for 320 GB).

Re: report your pvr results here
Bought a 250g SimpleDrive x-hd ($89) on Friday.......works great. Formatting took a little longer than i thought it would, but in the end, i got it done....may have to load the next bin with the loade , as receiver does not locate usb, all the time...and loader fixes the problem.
No problem with the recording, pause, FFW & all functions.

Re: report your pvr results here
I tried the PVR function with a 1gb thumbdrive. Timeshifting sucks. It will freeze and be very slow when playing if time shifting is on. I will have to try an external hard drive. Maybe the read/write speeds on a thumbdrive are too slow.

Re: report your pvr results here
I have been testing my new CW800PVR for almost two weeks and I am pleased with this receiver. I also test a pansat 2700 and I prefer the CW. I bought the CW because of the support and the CW800 specifically for the PVR feature. Unfortunately, I haven't had much sucess with either recording or timeshifting. I beleive I'm doing what I'm suppose to but I'm either not doing somehing right or the feature just doesn't work. The most I've accomplished is record a channel other than the one I'm watching. When I try recording the channel I'm watching the CW goes through the motions and then the picture freezes, I can still hear the the channel but nothing much more than that happens. When I go into USB mode to play back I see the file but it's always zero bytes. As to timeshifting, again, it goes through the motions but not much more. I've tried using both a 30gig WD and SC flash cards ranging in size from 1gig to 4gig. Same results with either recording device. Any ideas?
