PVR Hard Drive

I've got a simplicity 320g external hard drive attached to my800 for the PVR. It works fine on recording the shows and I can replay them on the 800.

I have connected it to my laptop in the past and with VideoRedo, I've copied shows and burnt them to DVD; but, for some reason, right now, when I connect it to my laptop, I can only see one gts file. The others are there as I can reconnect it to the 800 and play them back. I've also recorded new ones today as well that don't show up.

Has any one else had problems reading their hard drive by the computer and what did you do to solve the problem.

Re: PVR Hard Drive

ok there are two things you can try.
1. when the drive is connected to your computer try right clicking and hitting refresh.
2. if that doesn't work go to click organize (top left) >> folder and search options >> click the view tab >> then where it says hidden files and folders click the circle next to show hidden files and folders. if necessary refresh again.

hope that helps

Re: PVR Hard Drive

Thanks, neither one worked.

I also tried to do a defrag on the drive to see if that would help. It told me the drive was scheduled for chkdsk and couldn't perform the defrag.

So I tried to do chkdsk; but, it said it cannot lock the drive and that it is in use by another process. I assume this means one of the files on it is corrupt and still open?

I'd like to save as many files as possible. Is there a way to find the corrupt file without deleting them from the STB one at a time?

Re: PVR Hard Drive

have you tried using the "safely remove device" then plugging it back in, or possibly even using a different usb port.

using a different usb port might sound simple but i've had times when my computer showed i had no pics on my camera but when i used a different port they magically appeared. this can happen if you are looking at or editing a file on your computer, don't safely remove the hdd then delete the file using your sat box. when u plug the hdd back into the computer and the files are gone your comp figures all the files are gone. the only odd thing is that it still shows 1 file on your hdd...

this doesn't happen all the time, only if your computer is actively accessing the data when you unplug the drive. out of all the times i've not safely removed my camera it's only happend twice.
hope this helps and good luck

Re: PVR Hard Drive

I tried the safely remove and it gave the message device in use and unable to disconnect at this time, try again later. I turned the drive off and on and then could disconnect it; but, it did the same thing for all 4 usb ports and still no luck.

Thanks for the help.
