How to get VTV4? Will this setup work?
Hi guys,
I'm also trying to get the FTA Vietnamese channels (VTV4 to start) to work. Here's my setup:
1. Reciever: viewsat pro
2. Satellite: Dishnetwork (oval shape)
3. LNB's: 1. Dishnetwork FSS Stacked LNB (#122677) and DishPro Digital LNBF (#151019)
On the Viewsat the settings are:
Galaxy 19 (97.0W)
LNB: 10750
22KHZ: Off
Disq: Off (I've actually tried all 4 ports on the switch and I've connected the receive and satellite straight without switch to no avail)
Leg sw: off
tp: 11966
So, my signal strength is fine 90%, but quality is jumpy (flux from 0 to 60%), but never locks onto any signal (greyed out). So I have 2 questions:
1. Do I have the correct hardware setup to get able to get vietnamese channels?
2. If I do, am I pointing the dish in the wrong direction? Since I never get a lock...
3. Anything else that might be wrong?
Thanks ahead of time,
J

Nop Hardwar in not good. You will need a 30" dish or bigger...bigger is better. Then you will need a linear lnb to catch 97W. that is the first thing to start.

Re: How to get VTV4? Will this setup work?
Your stacked LNB 122677 is a good LNB to lock on to 97W. Your Dish needs to be at least 30" or more. Your antenna settings should be as follows:
Galaxy 19 (97.0W)
LNB Freq: 10750
LNB Type: Standard
22KHZ: Off
Disq: None
Legacy sw: off
TP : 12177
What is your zipcode? So I can give your coordinates for aligning the dish.

Thanks for the heads up, I have the coordinates (elevation and azu... etc), I don't have a motor, so I have to align it manually.

Re: How to get VTV4? Will this setup work?
The DN FSS LNB from the DN Superdish(24x34") is bandstacked linear and is capable of receiving 97W for VTV4. If I can assume the LNB assembly is from a Superdish121(Western US), the LNB attached to the FSS is for 119W circular and will be at a useless slot, 99W, when the FSS is aimed at 97W. The dish usually comes with a DP34 switch as the dish itself does not have one built-in. The DP34 does not work well with FTA receivers, so a cheap 4x1 DiSEqC switch is what I use with my setup.
FTA birds are weaker and more difficult to find than the circular DBS sats, so patience and finer movements are required. A $10 sat meter will make life easier for you. The DishPro bandstacking technology of the FSS will result in duplicate channels unless you scan the Verticals only. If all this sounds a bit complex for you a linear LNB made for FTA can be had for $10-15 on eBy.

Re: How to get VTV4? Will this setup work?
Well so far,
I've been able to lock into a few tp's (11991 and a few others). My quality is around 30-50% depending on the tp. I get the foreign channels and video/audio comes through clearly.
1. Is it correct to assume that I'll need a bigger dish (30"+)? or is my current dish (over superdish 24"x30") still sufficient?
2. Do I need another LNB? (if I can lock into the few tp on 97W)?
3. Should I continue with current setup and keep shifting dish around till Quality goes up more and hopefully catch 11966?
4. Other suggestions?
Also, that's for all the help thus far.

Re: How to get VTV4? Will this setup work?
The limited Tps and readings you are getting indicate the dish may be marginal for your location. Here in NorCal I have found the Superdish inadequate for 97W and use a full round GeoSatPro90 for solid results on over 200 channels. A Hughes/DirecWay dish(23x39") also produces good results here, and it can be gotten for free on craigslist if you're lucky.
