Very Basic CNX Duo Help
My Dad is a bit of a technophobe, but wants FTA TV. So I'm here to try to get him set up.
We have a Conaxat CNX Duo
Dish 500 Dish that is about 21" x 22 1/2"
Dish Pro Digital LNBF that has 2 lnbs 1. 119 W
2. 110 W
I'm at 42.342 Lat
114.392 Lon
I've read sticky notes until I'm starting to get confused.
1st I ran a cable from 119 W LNB to the receiver, then I set the dish to get the best signal but when I went inside and checked the signal the "S" side is anywhere between 70 to 90 and the "Q" side is 0. I do get a 95-95 on Echo 1/2 148w and on AMC II 131w. I can't get any of the chanels to come up.
Do I need to reposition my dish to get a different satellite? and if so whitch bird should I be trying to get. GeoSat Finder web site said that the closest was the Solidaridad 2 114.9w.
I've never touched any sort of satellite sysem before but I've considered myself to be a quick learner. I'm starting to second guess that.

Re: Very Basic CNX Duo Help
OK bro, your going to need a diseqc switch or a SW21 switch. That way you can connect the lnb to the switch. Go to dishpointer.com to setup your dish. It will give you the elevation and azimuth of your dish. Your going to want to point at 119 first. Once you have 119 locked in, 110 comes in easy. I would suggest that you get yourself a single lnb if you can to lock in 119. It would be easier cuz the Dish Pro has its own switch built in and sometimes it gets a little frustrated. Remember once you have 119 you don't have to look for 110. Maybe a little adjustments but not much. Good luck buddy!!

Re: Very Basic CNX Duo Help
nope no switch needed just 1 cable from lnb to receiver
click on the dishpointer link in my signature and enter your zip then look for multi lnb setup and choose dish500 and use those coordinates to point dish
you want echo 7 at 119w and echo 6,8(8,10 or 10,11) at 110w

Re: Very Basic CNX Duo Help
Use a site like dishpointer.com to aim your dish.
Load the current Factory File as BootLoader.
Load the current Upgrade Bin as BootLoader.
Use the Channel Search Menu and select 119w If I remember correctly there are 2 of these - do NOT use the DirectTV one)
Set the LNB to DishPro (NOT DishPro FSS)
Select DiSEqC 1
Change the TP to 12239
Now you should see "Echostar 7 119w" at the bottom, this confirms that your settings are correct
Scan the bird
Now select 110w
Set the LNB to DishPro
Select DiSEqC 2
You should now see "Echostar 10/11 110w" at the bottom
Scan the bird
Exit out, saving as you go.
Load the current Patch.
Wait a full 10 minutes, if needed, for the keys to roll.
Watch TV.
PS: This is from memory, I maybe off a bit, like maybe needing to change the TP on 110 instead of 119, or the DiSEqC settings may need to be reversed...I'm not in front of an STB right now.....

Re: Very Basic CNX Duo Help
Thank you all. I went to Geo Sat Finder and it gave me all of the sat direction from my location. But I wasn't sure which ones I needed. Thanks BigEvil69 I've got the compass reading for the Echo 7 Bird.
I've got the receiver programed in now, and I know what bird I'm looking for, but I'm not getting a signal from any satellites now. I tested all of the cable and they check out good. Is there any way to check an LNB to see if its good? (The dish and LNB are older, it was left on our rental property)

Re: Very Basic CNX Duo Help
I don't have a Diseqc switch, so I am just using the 119 for now. I figured I could get it hooked up first and then add the switch and more channels later.

Re: Very Basic CNX Duo Help
ok you don't need a disq switch it is built in
just one cable from lnb to receiver
use the settings below and then adjust dish in small amounts until you get good signal and quality
echostar 7 119w
trans 12239
LNB freq 11250
LNB type osc-dp
22khz 0ff
Diseqc number 1
legacy sw off
motor none
echostar 8 110w
trans 12224
LNB freq 11250
LNB type osc-dp
22khz 0ff
Diseqc number 2
legacy sw off
motor none

Re: Very Basic CNX Duo Help
I'm not getting any signal now. I have a clear field of view, all the conections are tight but no signal.
I had a signal a couple of hours ago, albeit, the wrong bird. but at least I had a signal.
I haven't change anything I don't know why I can't find a signal.
Is there any way to test the lnb?

Got it.
I have been "tunning" it in with a digital meter, but all of the conections are good.

Oops, I've got to go. (I'm on a volunteer Fire Dept here) Just got a page out and it sounds like a big one. I'll check on this tomorrow.
Thank you sooo much everyone.

Re: Very Basic CNX Duo Help
Just for info. . . I found out that the LNB that was given to my dad was broke. The place where you screw the coax in was cracked, thus only worked some of the time.
Who would have thunk it. . .
