vs pro steps
the best way to set this up for your first update is hard i had some problem with other recievers but have figured then out try and load the newest bin first if it does not load it in and reboot then you will have to load via the serial cable for the first time as there updates for the software in there once you have the newest bin or the factory release you can then use the usb for the new update .. (the reason is with out the upate there is no software up dater list .. now let go to the settings for your set up .. sorry edwinsao just figureed it out ..
first you have to hit menu then installation then hit satellite and place a check mark but the sats you want after that you hit menu to go back to installation..next go down 1 to antenna settings then set up like this
example :
satellite echstar 8,10
lnb frequency (now here you have to hit ok and it will give you a drop down list choose your lnb if you just have a standard just enter in 11250 highlight hit ok next
22 khz off
diseqc 1.0 ( to what ever port you have set up for )
disqec 1.1 none
motor type disable ...
next you will hit the red button and it will send you to the next screen ..
satellite echostar 8,10
mode (hit ok then move it to manual 8,10 12224 )for 7 change to 12239 make sure or you could get some double channels ..
hit menu to go back an keep going ..
network search off
search type all tv and radio
atenna settings 11250 mhz then hit red button and it will scan for channels ..
once you get all your channel then you are ready to set time and date make sure for recording has to be correct .. now with the epg it needs to be scanned once you have done that it will populate and keep then updated no problem .. ..
now for the hard drive you need to format the drive fat32 . so it you have a boot disk or have a old windows 98 computer sitting around great just slave the disk via jumpers on the back install into you machine and format it fat32 .. if you do not it will not be recoginezed .. also make sure you have the usb on for where you have the drive installed . ok
now format it again with your reciever go menu then hard disk format then it will ask for password 0000 then it will say hdd format highlight then hit start format once it is done you are ready to go ..
now you can record it also has pip you can record to shows at the same time time shifting etc.. now video conversion and how to place on your computer .. once you have recorded there will be 2 sections one will be small and one larger depends on the size of you hard drive before you put it on you computer go where are the movies recorded you have to do this
menu record then file manager now you will see the movies you recorded they will be on a part of the drive with the file system of E2FS now windows cannot read this format so you will have to hightlight the movie you want to move then go to the right side and choose the fat32 files system and hit green button and it will coppy to the right now when this is done .. now you can safely remove the drive put it in you computer and tranfer the files to you computer for what you need to do next..
whew ..
now the files will come out in a format call trp window will now use or play this .. so the easiest thing to do is this go to where you copied the file then hit file and folder option at the top take the check marks out of show hidden files and show extensions
next this is cool hight light the movie file then right click and go down to rename here you are going to change the file ext now change the .trp extension to mpg then hit enter and it will pop up a warning hit yes you want to change the extension and walla now you have a mpg file that windows can play.. and in this format you can convert to what ever you want even dvd.. hopefully this makes it easier for you all it is not easy but once this is all set up you will live this machine ..

Thanks, Scanned; have tons of channels and it wont update the software...I'll try loading the latest bin tonight with the serial cable. I gave up and went swimming.... it was too nice of a day to mess with it sunday anymore.
Thanks I'll try loading the bin your way.
Did you see the other post...did you have a glitch with it not getting a signal?
It was very strange.... You may want to post how I got mine to work in your "sticky".
