buying a new reciever
I'm now in the market fora new receiver since my Nova went dead a few months back. I'm looking at either the Phoenix or the Solaris. Which one would be a better deal. The Phoenix is $220 Can. and the Solaris is $180 Can.

Re: buying a new reciever
number of good post on here that debate the brands nf, kbox, cnx (I-link) not necessarily in that order..sv is trailing the pack..not a good buy..

Re: buying a new reciever
yes the pheonix is the better box but solaris is a nice reciever also ,the pheonix runs alot cooler being its a bigger box.the features are the same between the 2 right now but in the near future the pheonix should have a few more.the k-box is also a nice reciever and so far has been solid.i believe the pheonix has more channels because of having alot of the bev channels.

Re: buying a new reciever
The Soalris is identical to the Nova, in every respect, except it is black in color.
The Phoenix is a slightly larger unit, physically. Has a better quality tuner, higher mA output for LNB power, more memory for EPG and stuff. Phoenix runs cooler as well. For the small difference in cost ($30.00 -$40.00), you may want to opt for the Phoenix, it is just a better all around product. Creative Genius

Re: buying a new reciever
One more question here. I was running my Nova from a Bell 2wire Gateway, but its 60+' away from the tv. Would I be able to put a router closer to the tv and then just run 2 cables for the sat and my xbox 360 from there?

Re: buying a new reciever
So what are the chances that the FTA world is going to screw me twice on purchasing these receivers?
I want to get the Phoenix, but am hesitant after spending $200 or whatever on my Nova only a few months ago. |

if you can't move ur router then a couple options are: 1) powerline adapters- plug & play simplicity can find used on fleabay for $21 per requires two-2 units 2) wireless game adapters- assuming ur router is wireless cable the stb to the adapter and configure the adapter to connect to ur wireless homenet 3) buy a bridge unit like netgear's 606 unit..others have used and can attest to its friendliness and stability |
