jtagging is a short cable you hook up to the inside of the units board.and write info to it with programs.
it doesn't matter,as new units do not have jtag software.least none released to the public.
with a 6 year warranty.all you have to do now is send the unit back for repair/replacement.
the old days of jtagging stbs back to life seems to be over.

Re: Please help with captain 7100
Read your warranty. It specifically states tht if you use unauthorized software you have voided your warranty. That means ANY other software (bins, updates, firmware) that you did not download from the OFFICIAL vendor site is unauthorized, thereby voiding your warranty.
It's unfortunate that in this case it appears to be a hardware malfunction. These units came out late and appeared rushed to market. If enough people have the problem maybe Captain will do something about it.
A quck phone call to your fta vendor will confirm.

Re: Please help with captain 7100
The problem is you can't just return it to the manufacturer. Depending on the manufacturer, you require an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization). Good luck. As far as keeping it to yourself, the unit pobably has the date of upgrade saved. The factory, and perhaps your vendor, has softwasre and equipment that is unavailable to us mere mortals. And the cost of shipping.
With all the dead receivers listed in the forums, if it were a simple warranty return, we'd all be doing it. There's a 'wink.. wink' component to what these units are being used for and no one is fooled. The occasional 'dead receiver' seems to be a part of playing.

yes.but please don't make it sound like they don't go good on their 6 year warranty.
they do.
and if you mention you used 3rd party software to them,of course they can't.
its not complicated.in fact its quit easy.
no luck involved.simply e-mail here:
warranty@captainfta.com
thread now forced to be closed as there seems to be people "hinting" around the 6 year warranty is complicated and or no good.or that you must get lucky or something for them to stand behind their 6 year warranty.

Re: Please help with captain 7100
c/p:
i thought i would give you an update of my stuck on boot problem. This is a c/p of part of the e-mail i got from captain support team.
Dear Me, your receiver was stuck on boot and was not able to load up. Ever time you turn on your receiver, your receiver boots itself up to prevent any glitches that it may have, and from time to time receivers will get minor glitches. In your case, for some reason, during the reboot process, it was getting stuck in the boot process and wasn’t able to turn on. Anyhow, our technicians were not able to fix it, sometimes we are able to fix them and sometimes we aren’t. Which in your case, we weren’t. Neither less to say, we will be sending you a brand new replacement receiver first thing Monday morning, in which I will email you a tracking number through UPS so that you can keep track of where and when you can expect your receiver to arrive. I thank you for being a loyal and patient customer of Captain and appreciate your support. Take care!

Re: Please help with captain 7100
c/p:
I have the same thing on a 7000. Tried everything you can imagine...but always, after the programming file it sticks on boot. I ended up contacting Captain tech support via email who were awesome....tried a newer factory file - no luck...so I'm sending it back to them with an RMA form. Great customer service.

c/p:
My Captain 7100 goes out in the mail tomorrow with the same problem. I've been in contact with the same tech support trying a newer factory bin but still no go. I won't have it for the game on Sunday but at least it will get fixed.
