Thinking of stwiching
I have got an offer that I can maby trade my cw700 for a Captain 7100. first of all is it work it? there both new boxes. And the captain comes with a USB drive
I just have some questions before I get the captain
1) It has IKS if a dongle is installed correctly right?
2) Will the IKS dongle effect my internet service provider? Wil my provider know that I am using IKS for my box?
3) Does setting up an static IP adress protect me? So my internet prvider wont know I am doing this?
4) Will this box be effect by the card swap coming this summmer for BEV?
5) After I have everything scanned and my captain fully setup. Do I first do this than this?
-------------------edit------------------------------
Got a couple more questions guys
6) Is the EPG good? Meaning is what is on already there once you go on the channel like captiveworks 700 and 800?
7) is there catogory search like the captiveworks?

1. Yes, if installed correctly you should have IKS
2. No, it will not affect your ISP, Yes they can tell but they can for all setup types. If you are using IKS, they can tell. Will they look for some guy like you along with the other 2 million people using IKS or will they go for the big dog. I would not worry about it.
3. No, setting up on static will not hide you
4. It possibly could affect BEV, but DN will be safe. It sounds more like an attempt by BEV to scare people away
5. This and this ??? You lost me here
6. Yes, should not change
7. I never ran a CW but I can tell you the Neosat is good
Hope this helps, let me know

Re: Thinking of stwiching
the captain 7100 is a nice step up from the cw imho.
yes it has a great category search along with an even better search by title keypad feature than cw's i think too.
the epg is good.along with a custom epg setting 1-9 days for dn.
and auto 2 days for bev.
(just like the cw's-some channels don't extend fully-but most do.and the few that dont, still have 2 hrs roughly.-mostly bevs.)
its very nice for around 130 bucks.
this receivers biggest downfall is no way to save channel lists.and it boots each time you turn power off/on.but both along with others are stated to be fixed/advanced in upcoming releases.
the captain 7100 is one of my absolute favorites.
if they dress her up a bit even more,it would just be that much better.
you will probably like it better than the cw 700.but thats just a guess,as everyones tasts are different.and of course then you have option of running iks.
the setup is the best/easiest of any stb.
one button setup-OBS,is a blast to watch lol.set some basics and then watch her do it ALL for you.slick buddy.just plain slick.

another BIG kicker that puts her ahead of the cw's is something kinda basic.
you can work with favs(she has 8 also) and when you select a fav it displays only those channels in the epg.
stbs with a poor favs group bugs me.lol.least the cws let you put them in order, but still this is MUCH better.
plus you get a nice remote.
its very sensitive sensors also-you can point it about anywhere it the room and she will work.

Re: Thinking of stwiching
just the biggest shortcomings of the receiver.
to me,i don't really care that it reboots when you turn it off/on with remote.cus i leave mine on.
not being able to work with channel master or at least just save your list to usb is probably the biggest thing about it.cus if you need to do a factory default, you need to do all your editing all over again.and if your picky like i am,that can take an hour or two lol.deletes/flgs/favs.etc.
but USB features is said to be coming soon now by Team Captain.

Re: Thinking of stwiching
You seem worried about IKS and "getting caught". If you want IKS you have to accept that you are vulnerable, your ip address can be seen, there is nothing you can do except turn it off when not using it and use cardless whenever possible. Like I said earlier, why would they want one guy in 2 million from smalltown USA when they would much prefer the Big Dog responsible for allowing those 2 million people access to free programming.

Re: Thinking of stwiching
As a 7100 USB user, I can say that the biggest downfall is the slow response in getting updates. Everything went black on 7/2, Lots of other brands were up that day, my Captain is still down 7/4. Otherwise a b*tchin unit. How are the IKS guys doing? You up? If so, when were you back on line?

I think another big flaw they have is the fact how they mislead customers when they finally do acknowledge them.
For instance, if Captain came out with a response right now, it would likely be something to the fact they are working hard, it will be out soon, blah blah blah. Typical stuff. But all to often 'soon' with Captain means days or possibly weeks.
I'm an honest person. I would look someone right dead in the eyes to tell them the truth while hurting their feelings before I would lie or mislead. If you are having problems with a BIN, tell the customer. Do not leave us hanging for days on end, checking and checking, waiting and waiting. Let us honestly know what to expect and what is going on.
Instead, all to often, we are left in the dark. When we are let in on some news, it's usually some glossy BS that says little and means nothing.

Re: Thinking of stwiching
Hopefully they will get the support down soon. BTW, my 7100 freezes and reboots a at least couple times a day. I'm thinking of switching too, to something like Sonicview, viewsat, or Pansat HD. I was looking at the Captain 8000HD, but at this point I'd rather spend a more for better support. I see the captain IKS guys got a fix yesterday, lessee that was 3 days, should be any day now for us USB guys.
