BUG REPORT for NEW GUI ver only
Everything listed in this post STILL require fix, anything that is FIXED is moved to post below.
- Guide does not work (...I think I know why)
After looking around, I notice my Dish gets 110, 118 & 129.
the
EPG settings allow
TP settings for 119 only
I notice
EPG is available on all DN SAT's
Example:-
110 | CH 36861 | TP : 21 | Freq: 12516 (44hrs)
118 | CH 36861 | TP : 07 | Freq: 11806 (44hrs)
129 | CH 36861 | TP : 17 | Freq: 12457 (44hrs)
119 | CH 36861 | TP : 19 | Freq: 12486 (44hrs)
119 | CH 36861 | TP : 18 | Freq: 12472 (9 days)
so basically everyone who does not have 119 gets screwed by VS. How hard could it be to include option to select SAT also in
EPG as
TP settings are allowed.
When removing unwanted channels from scan...
STB freezes 60% of the time. Had to power cycle it to get back.
- No way to delete extra SAT's from SAT list
- No way to hide channels that are blocked from Guide.
- Deleting channels from Channel list causes FTA to tune to channel you are selecting... if you remove channels to fast, it hangs FTA & FTA reboots itself. (not sure why in the 1st place someone needs to tune to channel when deleting), it should be just simple list considering sometimes you have to delete 300-400 channels, it takes long time this way & FTA goes crazy as every time you select to delete, it tries to tune to that channel.
- Hard rebooting the FTA sometimes looses all channel list & SAT info... displays "NO CH", had to re-setup LNB & scanning etc.
- Changing channels fast or changing from SD to HD, goes to "No Signal" or "AR processing...", requires Hard reboot.
- Suppose you are watching ch 200, and you setup timer to record ch 300 later on & turn off to standby mode, after it records, FTA does not go back to ch 200 when you turn on the FTA. It should have been You tune to ch 200, later on FTA awakes up & tune to ch 300 & record the programme & afterwards switch back to ch 200 & goes to standby mode, so when you turn on it is in ch 200. (not a major issue)
- Auto scan or Blind scan does not work when multiple SAT are selected.
- Rename channel info gets lost when rebooting FTA, this import settings does not help in this case either, as after importing the settings from USB, FTA reboots & channel name looses (BUG)
- If you have channels blocked example ch 200 to ch 210, FTA channels that are blocked & when you suppose unlock channel 200 to view it after entering correct password, it keep on asking for password as you change channel, I think once you have unlocked channel & you are viewing it, and you change channel to another locked channel, it should not ask for password, unless you are switching from clear no lock channel. Too much headache if example here you ch surfing between blocked channels from 200 to 210.
- Easier way to surf channel without channel been switched over like in Dish & Bell, where on remote you press right arrow key & then move up or down to see what is currently playing w/o the need of switching over. if Supposed you like some channel just press OK, to switch over to that channel.
- FTA looses sound, so sometimes I get audio from HDMI & sometimes from Optical & sometimes neither of time, had to hard reboot FTA & everything gets normal.
- Format USB drive function does not work, tried on FAT16 & FAT32, format fails every time.
UPDATE(Nov 13th, 2008):- When doing USB format for Memory stick, the format still does not work... tried FAT32 & Ext2, although you will get message saying it's Success, so no more format fail message, but does not work.
New added: Aug 20th, 2008
13. Program Rating missing (example R, PG-13 etc) in guide
14. Once keys are rolled & Video is up, you change channel between SD & HD... it 50% of the times displays... No Audio or Video or AR Processing, video shows up subsequently in few mins while that ch is turned on, looks like AR processes it... so that would mean, it's BUG is the code causing 9000HD to looses current key info & goes back to default key (what ever is at the time of
FIRMWARE release & embedded in the code) & wait for AR to complete, it happens more often on HD channels & sometimes on SD channels, even when SIG & QTY is good.
15. Any possibility of getting TurboHD (1080p) support & output to 1080p HDMI in the future code release.
New added: Sep 3rd, 2008
16. Audio loss during viewing of regular SD or HD channels, this happens randomly once a while, no Audio from Optical SPDIF or HDMI, this was noticed with current ver
Viewsat 9000HD 080820 and also
Viewsat 9000HD 080911 (sometimes audio comes back after 20-30 mins & other times changing channel fixes it, it seems 100% software BUG.
Update: (Sep 22, 2008) This is happening quite often now, SD & HD channels... sometimes HDMI audio gone, sometimes SPDIF optical & other times both. Sometimes changing chs restores audio, other times reboot is required.

17. When browsing the guide, if you click on some channel & later close the guide (exit), instead of staying in the same channel, the channel switches back to original channel that you were watching when you clicked the guide. Unless you double click on the channel, just more hassle finding the channel again.
New added: Sep 7th, 2008
18. Some of the channel names not listing correctly example CH 716 on DN (118.7) shows
Video Italia instead of
Star Plus.
19. After renaming channel in channel list & saving it, the new name only shows as long as the FTA is not powered off & on. Once the FTA power is recycled, the rename setting is lost. (BUG)
New added: Sep 9th, 2008
20. Unable to change FAV list while in Guide, the only way to do is by existing Guide & then Pressing "FAV" button.
New added: Sep 14th, 2008
21. Sometimes channel shows autoroll processing... then you change channel, it still displays same for all channels, even if you were watching before & no keys have changed. The only solution was to reboot the FTA, then channels shows up ok.
21. TurboHD (1080p) support & output ?
New added: Sep 28th, 2008
22. Rebooting FTA looses future recording timers.
New added: Oct 6th, 2008
23. Audio mute issue has grown now almost every 15-20 mins audio loss occurs, this is noticed on SPDIF optical output, during this time when this happens, HDMI audio is still up. (most of the times)
24. Menu Transparency has a bug that cause it to default to 127 value settings after some time. Although, the settings will display your value example 80 in settings, but menu will not have any Transparency, unless you change up or down, then settings take effect, but again after some times, Menu Transparency will stop working even though it still have the value set.
New added: Oct 7th, 2008
25. Format fails in MENU with USB memory stick (tried Kingston 1GB, 2GB & 8GB sticks), but works fine with USB HDD.
26. Takes quite a bit of time to detect HDD once you plugin. Also file system not detected if HDD is plugged in before powering FTA. HD must be connected after FTA is running.

27. Setting up Record timer for future does not always kickin (even though you can see timer listed in guide). If they do, they end up recording different channel instead of the one. So far not a single event was recorded this way, had to manually record it.
(it seem could be cause I have FAV lists & the channel I setup to record is listed all All channels or example FAV1, where as the last time I turn off FTA it was at FAV2, so FTA starts up & try to tune to the channel not listed in FAV2, & instead records channel closed to that channel in FAV2, (BUG), they should switch to All channel list & then tune to the channel that is set to record.)
UPDATE(Nov 9th, 2008): Issue still exist with PFTAHDSW-081105H_New GUI also, when I set timer to record show while in example FAV2, the timer kicks in switches to correct channel in FAV2, switches to All channel & start recording whatever channel is listed in "All channels". They should have done better job, it should be if something timer set in FAV2, should go back to FAV2 & tune to the channel & record OR change to All channels then tune to that channel.
28. During recording, you can't view Guide. Which does not make any sense. So no way to browse guide.
29. During recording pressing power off, does not warn users to stop Recording, instead it stops & goes in standby mode.
30. No Audio issue of SPDIF is causing lot of headaches, as during recording this happens so the only workaround is to switch channel back & forth to bring audio back, but that is not possible during recording.
31. During No Audio outage with SPDIF (optical) output the RED laser light is still active in optical cable. This also happens when playing recorded event, the solution is to replay again... tested the FTA, cable & Dolby receiver & found it to be related to FTA.
32. Dolby Digital 5.1 is buggy with SPDIF (optical) output, it takes some time to get audio when tuning to that type of channel, PCM does not have the same issue.
33. Programme Rating (PG, PG-13, R etc) missing is Guide
34. By Browsing Guide, unable to see which programme is continuing Example: Movie is running from 1pm to 3pm, current time is 2pm, guide is Dish & bell shows Movie is continuing, where as in VS guide, it does not show that unless you look into details to see when it started & compare the time. Also Current time clock is not be displayed in Guide.
35. Guide viewing should change every 1/2 hour, instead of 1 hr. As most programmes are 1/2 hr shows. It gets harder to see what been played.
36. Option should be given so that in Guide highlighting future programme & clicking on it gives timer options like Tune it, record it or cancel, instead of pressing F1. (just common sense)
New added: Oct 21th, 2008 (using PFTAHDSW-081014H_New GUI):
37. Audio issue still exists tried following settings...
Audio Type: Default
S/PDIF Dolby Bypass: Off
Audio Type: Dolby
S/PDIF Dolby Bypass: Off
Audio Type: User Selected
S/PDIF Dolby Bypass: Off
Audio Type: Default
S/PDIF Dolby Bypass: On
Audio Type: Dolby
S/PDIF Dolby Bypass: On
Audio Type: User Selected
S/PDIF Dolby Bypass: On
This includes all possible combinations, also the only way to get DD sound from S/PDIF is to use
Audio Type: Dolby
S/PDIF Dolby Bypass: On
settings.
37. While deleting channels in channel list FTA freezes & the only way to get back was to power cycle it, but this causes to start all over again. After few times, when I didn't see it getting resolved, I tried workaround by end up changing LNB settings to invalid values so No Video / No Signal is their & end up deleting (cleaning up) unwanted channels & then restoring the values for LNBs.
38. In PVR, while viewing their is no way to delete it. You will have to exit & go back to the PVR menu & look for the file to delete.
39. PVR menu is missing lot of info, shows file name only, it should have time stamp, as well as Name of the program similar to one offered by DN/BEV IRD like DP501/508 etc. Lot of cleanup is required to make in GUI friendly.
New added: Oct 24th, 2008:
40. Power management features need to be improved as mentioned below:-
41. Placing FTA to standby mode, does not turn off HDMI port and as a result power saving feature of TVs does not kick in (auto shutdown on no signal in TVs).
42. Most if not all external USB HDD supports power management, as this is missing in FTA, the HDD runs 24/7, instead of getting turned off after inactivity period like in PCs & Dish PVR IRDs.
New added: Oct 26th, 2008:
43. Suggestion, as it's well known Timeshifting takes a huge toll on HDD when running for long time. Since now days Solid state storage (memory sticks etc) are so cheap, it would have been idol to have 2-8 GB memory chips ($10-$20) storage build on to the FTA board so instead of relying on HDD, the timeshifting could use that buffer for timeshifting, it would benefit many ways, it would require less power then doing on external HDD, faster response time, higher speed, better performance, could also be used to buffer during recording mode and importantly for durability & longer lasting then mechanically driven HDD.
Edited (Nov 2nd, 2008):- Would be beneficial to use low cost DDR memory instead as timeshifting & buffering does not need content to be stored after power cycle.
44. Fast forwarding is buggy when going faster than 8X, on 7200RPM HDD, VS need to have better algorithm, like displaying one of every 60 frames etc similar to the one done by Dish on their IRDs which is very smooth.
New added: Oct 27th, 2008:
45. HDMI output does not support Dolby Digital sound, only PCM works. Pretty much everyone reported this issue.
New added: Oct 29th, 2008:
46. Since N3 is around the corner, it would be great if VS start looking at support for IKS, it would be quite easy since 9000HD has USB ports & an external USB to Ethernet dongle could be supported in the software if not universally, at least for a particular brand/model.
New added: Nov 2nd, 2008:
47. When enabling feature on the remote to assiging volume control to TV "Changing Volume Lock" on page 42 of User's Manual. Not sure what VS was thinking & didn't bother to see if that even works. When you enable to feature, you can't browse the menu or anything else that require forward & back movement, as VOL > & < will only change volume. Where as DN/Bev have same feature & everything works great while still able to browser Guide & menu. (BUG)
New added: Nov 6th, 2008:
49. When viewing a current programme, you cannot set timer for it & also no option to shutdown FTA after recording timer is complete.
Example: Like watching late night 2 hrs movie & after 1hr you decide to record the rest of it & watch later, this option is not available. The only way to do it currently is by Manual recording & the recording will keep on going till you wake up the next day morning & stop it, not good for your HDD.
Ideal would be to have option to record current programme only & option to shutdown FTA to standby mode once recording is complete (for all types of recording).
New added: Nov 9th, 2008:
50. Would be nice to include optional advance information about the stream similar to...
New added: Nov 12th, 2008:
51. Removing batteries from ViewSat remote causes to loose TV/AUX/DVD code information, you will need to reprogram the remote again... code information should be saved to memory location on the remote where it does not loose w/o power.
New added: Nov 13th, 2008:
52. Connecting USB memory or HDD to STB does not get detected 60% of the time... following will happen...
*
(no message)... system does not show anything connected
*
No File system found
*
Unsupported File system
Temporary solution is to goto Menu-> System Settings -> USB Port-> then switch between Front & Rear settings and exist, as this causing the port to turn off. Wait few secs & do it again, till you get Message
XXX GB FAT32 found. I think it's BUG in VS.
New added: Nov 18th, 2008:
53. Timeshifting has stopped working, it seems VS coders instead of fixing existing issues have indeed caused more, pausing timeshifting & playing it cause audio & video to start skipping 80% of it. (start noticing after pausing for 5-10 mins) Tested on SD & HD channels. TV is unwatchable.
New added: Nov 22nd, 2008:
54. When exiting timeshift, FTA does stop responding to remote control, seen on both HD & SD channels (only workaround is to standby FTA & power on again to enable it).
New added: Dec 2nd, 2008:
55. Guide information disappears suddenly, after researching... I found some how guide info/channel stops from SAT, so when 9000HD tries to acquire "Guide not found", it wipes out current information also, poor coding, they should only wipe out if successfully able to get new info from SAT & should only update once a day may be during night time.
56. Turning off FTA to standby, the Guide information is wiped out. FTA does not retain it. (this never use to happen before)
New added: Dec 8nd, 2008:
57. Searching in the guide does not have option to save last keyword searched (Recent search) similar to DN IRDs, this saves time if searching the same keyword again in the future.
New added: Dec 31st, 2008:
58. While surfing Guide when pressing Channel UP/Down on remote the channels moves as they should be, but once you exist guide you press CH UP, it gets reversed so pressing up in fact moves channel down & vice versa when you Press CH DOWN on remote it moves up.
59. When you set Record timer for two different programmes example: 1-1:30pm & 1:30pm-2:00pm, the 2nd one does not record even on same channel only 1st timer record works. I think coders should time it such way like Dish does it that if their is another timer that starts right away after this, then 1st timer should stop 10-15 sec early & this gives enough time for FTA to stop the recording & tune & start 2nd timer. As I notice when you end the record or manually stop recording, it takes about 10 secs or so to stop the recording completely.
WOW...
59
issues/bugs have been identified so far & still counting.
Their may be many more bugs, but these were some of them I identified, I will also mark them as fixes are released in future so we could track the BUGs here. By the way, I should also say, when everything is running ViewSat 9000HD offers one of the best picture Quality for SD & HD channels.
