Newbie getting started

Hi all!

This is my first attempt to get an FTA working. I don't have the receiver yet but I am planning to pick up the captive works 700. Prepare yourselves, this will be a long thread. Oh yeah and yes I did read the sticky threads to help me get started.

Right now I have an old EMU setup with a old computer sitting behind my TV where I use a floppy and load the latest files... ( I don't even know how it really works, someone else set it up for us), but now I cant seem to get it running anymore and figure it would probably be easier to move over to FTA. I know the satellite is pointing at 110 and 119 and Im getting Dish Network.

So the reason for this thread is to make my transfer to fta as smooth as possible. I did read most of the stickys regarding setting it up, setting up the antenna and flashing with USB but I still have a couple of questions regarding setting it up brand new out of the box.

1) I read the CW 700 setup guide and it looks like the first thing to do is update the bin. I see the latest one on the forums is "CW700SV1.94_2008_10_27 " but inside the thread it says Fixed Amazonas AU. Does that mean its only for that provider Amazonas and not Dish Network? Are there seperate bins for Dish Network?

2) Also reading the CW 700 setup guide I see some steps saying
"16. Now enable patch (press F1 then 000) you should see (“patch enable” on t.v screen)
17.Wait for keys to roll and watch T.V
Setting up satellites (channel scan)
1. Select MENU on your remote... "

My question is if I am setting it up out of the box and I update the bins, wait for the keys to roll and watch tv before I set up my satellites... Will I actually get a picture without the satellites setup?

3) I was reading the How to scan your satellites and the setup guide and when it comes to setting up the satellites, I read for DN you have to install 119 on Diseqc port 1, 110 on port 2, and set the transponder to 119 is 12239, and for 110 use 12224... but my question is for LNB type and frequency. How do I know what frequency and type my LNB is?

4) Is there anything else I am missing to setup the box out of the box or is that setup guide have everything I need?

Thats all the questions I have for now. I know its a long thread but hopefully its easy to answer.

Thanks for now.

Re: Newbie getting started

The files will have all the providers in them, when one of them goes down that's why you see the fixed so and so. The antenna settings for ports etc all depend on how you have set them up, so ports and lnb types are personal choices for the most part.

Re: Newbie getting started

thanks for the quick reply boboisno1.

Okay, well like I said I didn't set it up myself. How do I go about finding out how my present dish is setup? I was checking the settings menu on my DP 301-013 receiver that I currently use for EMU, but I dont find any settings like that.

thanks again

Re: Newbie getting started

See if you can find out exactly what type of lnb's and switches you have and we can guide you form there.

Re: Newbie getting started

Okay,

The switch just says GC-SW21 Multi Dish Switch. and has 2 satellites coming into the switch and one cable going out to the receiver.

Also to find out what type of LNB do I need to go outside and get a ladder and physically look at a model number or something? I was reading on LNB types and I mostly found that if Im pointing at 110 and 119 I would have a circular LNB and my frequency is 11250, so shouldnt my LNB type be the Circular?

Re: Newbie getting started

We should be able to figure it out through trial and error for the lnb type. i.e single,OCS-DP, etc. The 700 might also have a auto detect for the lnb, not sure. The info you've provided so far sounds like you should be good to go when you get the receiver.

Re: Newbie getting started

You need to have the antenna settings right and the sat scanned first. You will get a few of the free open channels without a file. You only really have to apply the patch once, even after loading new files, pressing f1 000 turns if off then pressing it again turns it on.

Re: Newbie getting started

your antenna setting wil look like this
use tp 12239 for 119 / and 12224 for 110
lnb type signal/or standard
lnb freq 11250
22khz off
diseqc none
legacy sw sw21 lnb 1 for 119 sw21 lnb 2 for 110
scan and watch tv if you have Quailty
you must load bin 1.93 in your stb before you load any files that come after it.

Re: Newbie getting started

Okay so Im going to pick up the box either tonight or tomorrow. Just to confirm my procedure is right... I have to connect it obviously, load 1.93 bin first. When thats done loading do a factory default and follow the next steps from the setup guide.

Then I have to set up my antenna settings using the settings gremlin411 posted above. When thats done, then I have to load the latest bin 1.94 and set up the antenna settings again and that should be it... correct?

Sorry if this seems repetitive, just want to make this process as smooth as possible. Thanks in advance

Re: Newbie getting started

djtiko...make sure you have the CW700SV1.01 loader on your desktop, load bin1.93(now it will be a new bin so you might wait for it), go to "antenna settings" start with the settings gremlin gave you, scan sat 119 and 110, select yes to "hard reboot?',make sure you press F1 then 000(patch enabled), you should be watching TV...good luck...WAGGS

Re: Newbie getting started

djtiko
This is what I would do load 1.90 first follow all insturction then scan. if there is a new ecm out it will still scan all the channels they will just be scrambled. people are having some problems not finding all the channels with 1.93. then after the scan and reboot hit the usb button to open menu then hit the fav button ( save database YES ) then load 1.93 and follow instruction. After loading 1.93 highlite the channel file and hit the OK button all channels will be back you do not have to scan again. Do not load 1.94 you do not need it is not for DN or BEV. then when the new file comes out load it and everything should be ok.

Oh after loading 1.90 hit F1-000 to enable patch you will not have to do it again unless you do a factory defualt.
