HOWTO: Pansat 9200 Scan HD and How to install 8psk module

c/p from cesna pilot:

With the 9200: Scan All DN HD Channels Every Time
For the Pansat 9200, the following procedure will virtually guarantee finding all High Definition channels on each [Satellite] scan, whether published or not.

Even though not all transponders may actually be in use on the bird you are about to scan, manually input all 32 transponders, Twice. Once for the SD channels, and once for the HD channels. When you are finished, you should have 64 transponders stored. One thing that is standard with all DN and Bev satellites is they use the same transponder frequencies and polarity. You can obtain the list by going to LyngSat - Lyngemark Satellite or see the list below.

The protocol used is as following:

Menu
Installation
Satellite Setup
Edit TP/SAT
Choose Satellite
Edit TP
Delete all Transponders, one at a time

For Standard Channels

Down Frequency: 12443
Symbol Rate: 20000
Polarity: Horizontal
Tuner Type: DVB-S
Modulation: QPSK
Pilot: Off
FEC: 5/6

For High Def

Down Frequency: 12443
Symbol Rate: 21500
Polarity: Horizontal
Tuner Type: DVB-S2
Modulation: 8PSK
Pilot: On
FEC: 2/3

When finished, perform a Satellite Scan on each bird.

Interesting note: Usually the FEC, when set to Auto, will still normally find the proper Forward Error Correction, however, this is not the case with HD. When manual insertion is in use, the information must be exact.

I performed the above-mentioned procedure on all DN birds. Make sure you save your work to your USB card so as not to have to repeat this [lengthy but beneficial] process. In so doing, this procedure will ensure all current, and future HD channels will be found whenever a satellite scan is performed.

Active Transponder List

12224V 12239H
12253V 12268H
12282V 12297H
12311V 12326H
12341V 12355H
12370V 12384H
12399V 12414H
12428V 12443H
12457V 12472H
12486V 12501H
12516V 12530H
12545V 12559H
12574V 12588H
12603V 12618H
12632V 12647H
12661V 12676H

Note: Bev is QPSK [not 8PSK as is DN] and does not require this modification. It will however be beneficial to manually input all 32 transponders and the 20000 symbol rate. This will ensure 100% channels found, provided a good quality signal is present.

Re: HOWTO: Pansat 9200 Scan HD and How to install 8psk module

It would be great if (in the nature of the holiday season) you could post your work.
Perhaps we could return the favor some day.

P.S. I am very happy with my 9200
Thanks

Re: HOWTO: Pansat 9200 Scan HD and How to install 8psk module

I just bought a pansat 9200HD and followed your instruction to manually input the transponders and it doesnt work. Do you still need a 8spk on the Pansat 9200 HD?

thanks

It would be nice if you would go into more detail on this procedure. I have also tried, your procedure withouth deleting all of the transponders first. I have not had any success.

Re: HOWTO: Pansat 9200 Scan HD and How to install 8psk module

It would be nice to see pansat develope a receiver with the 8psk module built in. By the time you buy a 9200 and then add the cost of the module, your looking at about $600. Or am I wrong on how I understand this proceedure?

Re: HOWTO: Pansat 9200 Scan HD and How to install 8psk module

Thank for posting this procedure.

I am working with a brand new receiver with the board installed.
As a starting point, I am doing a single transponder search using the specific parameters you have posted (21.5Msps, 2/3 FEC Pilot ON, etc) but I find no active channels when searching.

I see Signal 87% Quality 77% on the transponder search screen. Is this adequate signal? The signal indications on the screen are intermittent- they indicate this and then nothing but I think this is a screen display issue, not a RF issue.

The loopback RF cable at the back is connected between the tuner board connector at the back and the "IF 1 Output" connecter at the lower far left corner when looking at the back face of the unit (just below the connector I attached my antenna/LNB cable to). Is this the correct loopback connection?

Thank you.

Re: HOWTO: Pansat 9200 Scan HD and How to install 8psk module

Thanks for all the great info. However, I was wondering how to receive HD channels on Ku beam? I see the SR and FEC are the same as Conus, but I am not sure if the transponder should be set to DVB-S and QPSK or DVB-S2 and 8PSK. Thanks for the help in advance.
