Isn't it Interesting how....
The Viewsat and Sonicview folks always seem to get their updates within a few hours of an ECM but the Coolsat folks are always last if days behind? Just wondered if I was the only one who noticed...

Re: Isn't it Interesting how....
I'm waiting on my cs7000 bin. What I find curious is that we are all so predictably stoic. Good hobbyist all. No one ever posts that their wife (sig other) is climbing the walls and saying we should get another provider, and maybe we should take our satellite to Radio Shack to fix, or find someone who can. Wifey doesn't understand anything about this "hobby". To her it is not a hobby it is TV. She is aspin in terms that have no meaning whatsoever. And I'm like some operator on the Turkey Hotline trying to explain this at 1/2 hour to dinner on Thanksgiving.
My take, if you haven't read it elsewhere is that the coders are off for the weekend and the fix is in for 8am Monday. <- cranky and cynical

Re: Isn't it Interesting how....
with n3 coming, and who knows it may be soon, i wouldn't be so quick to buy another box. what if they require a card or a johnson rod to affect the fix. new box owners will be worse stuck. if i were in the research stage again, not caring about n3, i'd study those iks thingys. i guess that the coders can't tip there hand and say yay/nay the post-n3 world will look thus and thus because they are playing a game on a baby grand scale, but it would be nice to know if they could say, the big n3fix will use present technology, but they can't. or I guess they can't. maybe they really can't say anything at all because they are still in high weeds. I find that part so fascinating, but by it's nature it can't be shared with us endusers. but I would love to know. I wonder if there is a hypothetical thread, that would be a great bs river of conjecture.

Re: Isn't it Interesting how....
From what I gather, N3 will certainly put a BIG rain on our parade for awhile. But we have to realize that we are fighting a huge machine with more resources at their access and those FTA coders have to 'reverse engineer' these ECMs. Unfortunately the playing field will never be a level playing field or one that ever shifts to our favor. The battle will always be uphill merely because we can't take an offensive stance. We are going to always be for the most part 'RE-actionaries' - having to solve the problem after it has arrived - instead of trying to prevent it.

Re: Isn't it Interesting how....
You sure are not the only one noticing the support we get on the 6100. My 5000 worked much better than this one has ever worked. I have been closely researching the brands that stay up and give fast support for my next testing adventure.

Re: Isn't it Interesting how....
one of the super moderators (edwin) just announced they will "release tonight", the files for 6100 and above (I guess that means 7000 7100 8000)

Re: Isn't it Interesting how....
say carolyn, what boxes were you considering, make/model?
I remember back in the day when the dinosaurs first brought us the computer, there was a company called Wang. they had a strangle hold on the business application ie word processing at least in the beginning. instead of serving the customer they made the customer needy for every crumb they'd give them. they were soon off the scene. heed these words Coolwang.
