When if ever should a Factory file be replaced?
I've never replaced my factory file except when it was new 9 months ago. Does it resolve issues the units have?

it resolves major issues but it will not help with freezing or scrambled channels

Re: When if ever should a Factory file be replaced?
one example,,say ur loading bin file via serial cable and ur computer loses power b4 download complete,,,that can really mess up a stb,,and sometimes only way to fix it,,is to start with loading in the factory file ,, there are other times its needed as well

turn off the reciever at night and it in the morning it won't turn on unless you cycle power on the rear of the unit, guide info dissapears alot ,especially when new bin comes out(thats normal I believe). Reguardless of how often i down load the guide.

u have to remember that flashing a bin is like loading to a hard drive u are riting over old data ,this sometimes couses conflicks if all the old data is not removed ,so every fue mounths you need to flash the fac.bin not once but 2 to 3 times to clear out any old data that did not get erased (the best way is to keep the flash from your unit when you buy it so u know where it came from )this saves u alot of problems later

Re: When if ever should a Factory file be replaced?
The factory file is typically used if an when your unit is having some 'brain' issues ... and is ideal for setting the receiver back to a 'factoty fresh' state. You should not require it too frequently.
Hope that helps.
