cs 5000 for true fta??
At another site that only deals with true fta, one of their main mods sings the praises of the CS 5000 for its easy of use & for its blind-scanning abilities.
He was less than enthusiastic about CW700's blind-scanning or SV4000's blind-scanning.
Question: B/C bin support is gone for the CS, I've seen these go for stupidly low prices, like $30-35 shipped. What you-all think about snagging one of these just for true fta utility?
Follow-up: One of the retailers the pops up here is selling for SV4000 for $90 shipped. Would the SV blind-scanning be good enough such that it would actually be a better buy?

Re: cs 5000 for true fta??
The cs 5000 is a good stb for fta. SV 4000 for that price honestly is a little hard to believe, but sv has new stbs out so who knows.

Re: cs 5000 for true fta??
FYI: I run a CS6100 and SV4000 alternately. The CS finds sats more readily and the signal strength bars are great, but the SV consistently yields more channels on blind scans with the same antenna/switch setup.

Re: cs 5000 for true fta??
Hey bassist. I have a CS 5000 set-up for true FTA on a motorized dish and it is the best box for true fta that I have tested. Runs a motor great, has DiSEqC 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, and USLAS. Not many receivers support DiSEqc 1.1. Blind scans real quick, fast channel changes between sats, etc...
I would defenitely recommend it. I was fooling with Viewsats which are real similar to Sonicview and they suck for true fta. They dont run a motor well for one thing.
Hope this helps your decision. If you can get a CS 5000 for $30-$35 you got a great deal on a great boc for TFTA in my opinion..

Re: cs 5000 for true fta??
Thanks H-M-S,
I think I will snag one.
I haven't had a chance to set up my new fortec 80 cm, yet. I'm going to see if I can (finally) get 123 on the Neo that I bought from you. After i establish my aiming chops doing this, then I was thinking about going the true FTA route via either an H-H motor or by another stationary 31-36" dish & some extra lnbs.

Re: cs 5000 for true fta??
yup old coolies are great blind scanners.
sv/vs dont really focus on those things as they are newer co's.
ones like pansat and coolsat are actually the best true fta receivers.those where around before the "other" files come around.so they are more devoted to what they can be used for hehe.
thats the thing with neosat,no blind scan at all.so if you snag an old coolie for 30 bucks-which is easy to do of course, then your all set,as you can just use it to grab the scans and transfer them over with channel master for the neo so you can have the sweet pip function, which is totally bad ars for true fta and work flawlessly.with no epg on true fta is very nice to channel surf wile in 50/50 split screen mode on a neosat.

Re: cs 5000 for true fta??
Yeah Arb,
There is good programs on RTN that are not on the sub channels. Plus, it's nice to have alternate network feeds. So if I ever get 123 up & going I will definitely look to have one true fta system up & going b/c it would be very low dollars to do so.

Re: cs 5000 for true fta??
Just had to put my 2 cents worth in on this topic. I have several Coolsat 5000 units. I have also tested many other boxes, and yes the Coolsat 5000 is the very best unit for True FTA. Everything from blind scanning to motor control to manual input of frequencies polarities and symbol rates. It is fantastic, not to mention the fact that it works very well with channel master. So much so that I compiled a 3,500 channel list with over 34 satellites. Also was able to break the satellite grouping down to feeds for one and standard broacast on another listing even though they come from the same ********** this made the satellite listing more than 40. The wild feeds were all captured using the Coolsat 5000 and I must have over 600 seperate wild feed channels. I even found a way to manually enter wildfeed channels that are not listed at any web site but are true feeds from local news truck uplinks.
The compiled ndf channel list file I have posted on another forum. If anyone is interested I coulld post it here as well if permitted. The list is a few months old so some channels may no longer be active and I am sure that they have added some true FTA channels that are not on the list. This file can be opened using channel master and you can view all the channels in detail including audio, video and provider information. The list is in an ndf format and can be directly loaded into a Coolsat 4, 5 or 6k unit. The format can also be changed in channel master and downloaded to any reciver supported by Channel Master.
One other note, the wildfeeds on this list would be the most current, more than the "wildfeed starter list" that I compiled and is posted on a sticky on this site. The "wildfeed starter list" is several months old, I believe that was posted on another site last fall.
Just thought I would mention this list as it is positive prove what the Coolsat 5000 unit can do as a true FTA reciver.

Re: cs 5000 for true fta??
In a sense this is a thread hi-jack, but no big deal. (This thread deals with obsolete CSs' utility for viewing true FTA's linear birds!)
But for upgrading, I have an nFusion Nova & a Neosat ipro 2000. Overall, I would recommend the Nova if you want up more time. However, at this moment the neo is working cardless on DN while the nfusion is more-or-less down right now. The Neosat support has be very good over the last 4-5 weeks.
