Question what size and type of dish do i need

what size and type of dish do i need for a fta setup? i have an old dn 500 and dtv phase 3. also can i use one of the less expensive stb since i am not trying to beat ecms. my family lives in an area of very limited reception and i just want to help them get better regular tv. thanks!

You would likely need no less that a 30" dish however this is the min, a 33" would do better. Sat 123 is probably the one you would want to look at. The lnb you have won't do you any good. A cs 5000 is a good unit for fta and can probably bought real cheap right now.

if you live in an area where reception is weak then i would recommend 36-39 inch dish.....i would not go any smaller then 36 inches

i run a 33" dish and the 123 sat comes in good is a good lnb and time and you should get about 30/40 channels

you could rip the triple lnb off that phase 3 dtv dish and mount a linear lnb and would be "ok" for 123w IF your in the red zone below.(not the best.but over 60-70 % quality perhaps.if you want to try saving a little green.and yeah,a used panny 2500 or coolie 4000 will do the trick.
