Re: DN says Goodbye to the Pirates
IKS is "apparently" a work-around solution, sure... but i say "apparently" because i will not go-there. the whole point of getting a free signal is that it rains down on us through the air and for the most part can not be traced who is receiving it.
if i was DN and wanted to find out who was getting my signal (which is not a matter of regulating bandwidth, its maximizing revenue on that which is already dedicated and in place)... the first thing i would do is release BIN files through the regular portals for free that would crash all the boxes i could (try and make as many unauthorized users sign a contract with me as i can)... well that didn't work did it? ok lets patch the hole (N3 encryption, for now)... then i would make a new hole by providing a "relatively easy and less expensive" solution... lets just for the sake of argument call it "IKS" (im not saying IKS w/ an iHUB is DN countermeasures, but if I was DN... you could bet I would be all over THAT one)... now I would have a way to find out exactly where everyone is that uses this "hard wire" solution through their IP address/port/MAC address...
so unless they are using complete anonymous web surfing tools and a very nice MAC address changer with their own versions of hide/encrypt hardware/software... DN will have a NEW source of income.... the court of law... much more effective than sending vans around the neighborhood looking for Dish500's at houses w/o an active account... now they can get a log report of everything you have been watching... imagine your surprise when you get THAT bill in the mail. "please send us $9,999.99 for umpteen-million PPV events, ALL the adult channels, ALL the pay channels, ALL the premium sports, etc... included is a report of everything you have been watching for the last 6 months and at what time you were watching it... be sure you show it to your Public Defender when we see you in court, have a nice day"
call me parranoid if you want but i will wait for a real solution.
as for me, i will resume TESTING when N3 is solved for over-the-air solutions.
