DN says Goodbye to the Pirates

DN says Goodbye to the Pirates
Scott Greczkowski - The Satellite Dish
June 23, 2009

It appears late last week DN finished it conversion over to a new security system. The new security system known as NAGRA 3 has now been fully enabled on all channels that DN broadcasts.

The new security system patched a huge security hole that let people use regular legal free to air satellite receivers and modify those receivers to decrypt DN signals.

Legitimate users of Free To Air satellite equipment couldn’t be happier about the move as since the new security started going into effect they have been finding amazing deals on great satellite equipment on EBAY.

There is no know break for the new security system and many are hopeful that there won’t be a break.

DN as a company that did not like talking about its security problem, but it was the industries worst kept secret. If they can make it a few months without the new security scheme being broken then they might have something to crow about.

DaveTV has been relatively hack free since they moved over to a new security system many years ago. I truly hope DN will have with their new security that DaveTV has had with theirs.

Re: DN says Goodbye to the Pirates

Guys this will get cracked, its just a matter of time and money. I'm sure if the right people are offered the right amount of money, it wouldn't take long at all.

Let me ask you all this. Do you know of any type of encryption that is yet to be hacked?

mp3 and dvd protection got cracked (drm), game protection got cracked (starforce), app protection got cracked. If the security was made by a human/computer it can be cracked by a human/computer.

I don't really think fta wants to goto iks. Not only because of the risk on there end, but also the difficulty of it for the average joe. Fta people want to keep it easy so that people like us keep our friends and family hooked up, not something we want to do when we have to setup/explain and troubleshoot iks for people.

I'm sure dtv would have been cracked awhile ago if there was interest, but with dn being wide open, and offering the same channels for the mostpart, why bother? Fta saw no money in offering "options" like dn or dtv, and settling on just dn was fine.

Give it a few months guys, let things die down a little and I'm sure a fix will come out.

Re: DN says Goodbye to the Pirates

As with DAVETV we must consider this about a posible charlie-BEV N3 crack.
The N3 conversion required that old cardless subscription STB's-IRDs now must use a card.

Yes. Digicipher II used by *Choice. Only Motorola boxes can decrypt the stream.

I don't really think fta wants to goto iks. Not only because of the risk on there end, but also the difficulty of it for the average joe. Fta people want to keep it easy so that people like us keep our friends and family hooked up, not something we want to do when we have to setup/explain and troubleshoot iks for people.

Where is it written that a hobby has to be easy? Internet access is here to stay. As more and more receivers are hooked to it, the risk of detection diminishes. You can get lots of perfectly legal stuff already, so just having a connection does not mean you are a thief.

I'm sure dtv would have been cracked awhile ago if there was interest, but with dn being wide open, and offering the same channels for the mostpart, why bother? Fta saw no money in offering "options" like dn or dtv, and settling on just dn was fine.

DTV may have been just as easy to crack, but would have required a subbed receiver and a modified card. FTA receivers are useless, as DVB and Videoguard are two separate animals. And DTV cracks down hard on those who make and sell stuff to modify cards.

Give it a few months guys, let things die down a little and I'm sure a fix will come out.
Don't hold your breath waiting for a fix. You'll die!

Re: DN says Goodbye to the Pirates

It's fun to read all the hog wash that goes on at a time like this.
I remember n2 there was all kinds of garbage but I just set back and enjoyed family and good books and it was fun just reading all the not's and what nots. But in the end the coders came and washed all our nightmares away and it will happen again. Anything can be hacked even Dave if they really tried I am sure. Can't close all doors there is always one that is missed. Just my two cents.
Keep the faith and enjoy meeting new friends

Well considering that I can only hold my breath for 5-10 minutes before I'd die, I'm guessing you are right as I don't see a fix coming that soon.

I agree that it will eventually be cracked. I will wait. I also have to add in the staement made by that Scott guy. Why would someone subscribing care if someone was hacking it.

Scary, but no tv, means you have no choice. face your fears young man.

When n2 came out, it was the same story. The sky was falling and we were done for. But it all worked out in the end.
