EchoStar Seeks $1.1 Billion in Stimulus Funds

Never one to think small, EchoStar Corp. has gone all out in seeking funds from the federal government’s broadband stimulus program.

In its latest proposal, EchoStar has teamed up with ViaSat in a satellite broadband project seeking $483 million in stimulus funds from the fed. According to reports in the Denver Business Journal, the project would build and launch a new satellite which would provide download speeds of up to 8 megabits per second in all or parts of 20 states west of the Mississippi River.

That makes at least three projects, seeking a combined $1.1 billion, which EchoStar and its partners have proposed for the government’s broadband stimulus program. Other projects include EchoBlue Rural, a partnership with WildBlue Communications, and a proposal to provide broadband from existing EchoStar satellites used for the DISH Network.•

Re: EchoStar Seeks $1.1 Billion in Stimulus Funds

how the hell can a company that makes profit ask for help. do they share there profits with the government , never in a million years!
these kind of packages should only go to companies that really need assistance to grow.

This is insane, their already filthy rich, now the GREEDINESS is showing really bright. They absolutely 100% DO NOT deserve any stimulus help.Their raking in the money and rolling around in hundred $ bills in there sleep.Let alone all them fat cuban cigars and lemos, thanks T.C. for the share but this really angers me.

This very thing is the reason most of us bought into fta in the first place. It's our way to protest the greed of the sat. providers.

Re: EchoStar Seeks $1.1 Billion in Stimulus Funds

just my thinking on the subject, But the stimulus funds is tax dollars and who pays those tax dollars we do and from the looks of it our great great great grand kids will be paying. Any way say the now government gives them this stimulus that they want, Like GM whom they gave stimulus to and yes they gave it to ceos but then the government now owns GM then the Government gave a private organization Majority of the stocks, Now Echo Star wants this stimulus package that makes us the owner until the government gives the power over to a private organization which case we pay the bill and get nothing in return. NOT RIGHT so something is rotten in Denmark wouldn't you say?? Thought Echo Star was smarter than that.
They must want to give up their holdings in there own company.
