Coolsat/Viewsat declared war on clones
Viewsat has now offered a $5000 reward for information (bill of sale/sales receipt and cloned unit) leading to the conviction for any dealer selling viewsat clones.
they are quoted as saying
"We have declared war on all importers, distributors and retailers selling Viewsat clones."
Coolsat has followed suit, and is offering to give anyone 1 full case of coolsat units for information (bill of sale/sales receipt and cloned unit) for any dealer selling coolsat clones.
this is meant to destroy or put the clone units underground.
it has become a serious problem for them, as well as dealers selling clones and passing them off as the genuine boxes.
that is a scam in my opinion.. unsuspecting end users buy the real thing only to get it killed in a clone kill fix, finding out then, they have been ripped off and got a clone but paid for the real deal..
a new site is being setup for end user information with the truth and misconceptions of clones, SAT-CLONES - FTA - Coolsat Pansat Viewsat
as well as how to tell the difference between them.
currently there are only 3 known fta box manufacturers that have been cloned
Coolsat
Pansat
Viewsat

I dont know if im a little paranoid but could some "company" be the one responsable for making the clones on purpose to actually make damage to the real manufacturers??

So, seems the Norw Group (by request from CoolSat) may have wrote a clone kill code into the 141 Bin.
This was a good idea to eliminate the cloners...and take the unknowing customers under CoolSats wing.
I'm OK with that. Smart group of boys...

Re: Coolsat/Viewsat declared war on clones
I have a question.Everyone that I know buys from direct links thru this and one other reputable site,so my question is who would'nt be smart enough to figure out that purchasing a unit from a direct link thru these 2 sites wouldnt be safe because everyone I know has always gotten geuine stb thru these sites. I have looked on e-bay before and seen a box that said coo coo right on the front panel lol how stupid, that picture is permantely burnt into my brain.I personally dont see any benefit in having a clone at all.I know from reading on the web and seeing pics that there are some really slick looking clones out there as well, but when people buy them and figure out that they have a clone why dont they report from where it came from? I would be ashamed and feel deprived if I found out that I had a clone. If I ever even seen one I would automatically smash it and bash it(ground and pound) because this pisses me off.So to all that has a clone (knowingly) why not go ahead and whack it, buy into a reputable site and feel good about what you own,if you cant afford it then buy the cheapest unit out there, heck I could probably go outside right now and grab up enough junk to take to the salvage yard and buy a nice one, so I dont think evryone is really that broke, thats the biggest excuse I hear about the clones is oh I cant afford to replace it.Well I hate to tell you this but your going to afford it when it burns up from the kill code lol sorry, but thats just reality.

Re: Coolsat/Viewsat declared war on clones
The real problem of course is that the public has no idea how to spot a clone unit.
Yes, I'm interested in this Ultra unit, do you mind if I borrow your screw driver so we can just pull the hood off and see if its a clone? as I like the price, I just want to make sure I get the real deal ...
I mean really, how many people do you think actually do this (prior to purchase) and how many do you think would even know how to tell, even if they were looking?
Most people find FTA sites right after they buy a unit.

Re: Coolsat/Viewsat declared war on clones
I agree the first time i looked for a site was when i got tired of relying on someone else to fix my stb.most people on the first purchase are unaware of clones.like edwinso states the ones buying the clone to save 20.00 are the ones who i feel get what they deserve.i wouldn't mind finding one now though and collect that bounty.....lol

Re: Coolsat/Viewsat declared war on clones
this cloneproblem is probably why coolsat 4k 5k 6k have such poor support.

Re: Coolsat/Viewsat declared war on clones
Well I dont know where you are from but its like this here where im at,you have to straight up order your stb from site, because there isnt any walk in stores in this whole state that sells them to the outright public. So if I did live in a town or state where it was possible to walk in and buy , you can bet your golden ticket to heaven that as soon as I got it home(cant take hood off in store dang dudeyou try to make me sound like afool or what) , the hood is getting popped and checked, then if its good then fine ,but if not then it goes back with an attitude, thats how much of a genius you have to be (which aint much going on in the brain for anyone at that point)in order to do a legit deal. And for those that can walk in and buy from store then its your fault for not inspecting and returning IMMEDIATELY if you get stuck with a lemon, always check just to be safe this is paramount!!!!! Now for those of that dont know what 2 look for read and learn, look at pics, go to that site with the bounty reward, just trying to help everyone not argue. If you haveused this advice while purchasing a unit espcially on a walk in buy, then you should be good to go. uh
