G3 Smart Card Exchange - Managing Your Inventory

Dear DISH Network® Retailer,

Beginning in July of this year, DISH Network launched a project to exchange old (Aladin) Smart Cards in customer receivers for new (G3) Smart Cards. As part of this process, we are sending new G3 Smart Cards directly to customers with instructions on how to complete the simple installation process. Additionally, we have started to include the new G3 Smart Cards in receivers currently being sold - so for these receivers, the G3 Smart Card exchange may not be necessary.


Support for Un-Exchanged Smart Cards is Scheduled to End in November 2008 - In November, we plan to start the process of shutting off programming to Aladin Smart Cards. Therefore, it is important that you install customers with older receivers from your inventory first in order to deplete your supply of Aladin Smart Cards. The Aladin Smart Cards in these older receivers may be exchanged for the new G3 Smart Cards after they are activated with customers and before any programming shut-offs.


First In, First Out Inventory Management - As a reminder, to help you manage your inventory and ensure your customers have the appropriate equipment, please make sure you are using a “first in, first out” (FIFO) inventory management process. A FIFO rotation of equipment means you install the receivers you received in earlier shipments before installing the receivers you received in later shipments. This will help ensure that the receivers which have the Aladin Smart Card are moved out of your stock prior to programming shut-offs.
- Please note that there will not be a process to exchange Aladin Smart Cards in receivers that remain in your inventory after October 2008, so it is important to rotate older receivers out of your inventory before November 2008.

Showroom Accounts - The G3 Smart Card exchange also applies to receivers used on showroom accounts. If you remove a receiver with an Aladin Smart Card from your showroom account and then re-activate it before exchanging the Aladin Smart Card with a new G3 Smart Card, that receiver may not be able to receive all applicable programming after November 2008

This is true. First thing to drop is the internationals it will hit mid to end of nov. That is why all old receivers have to have the G3 card for international customers that are activated 11/1/08 as DN will not be able to send out new cards b4 the channels switch over.

Old cards can still be activated for normal programing Lat /American packages, as they have not given a time line for those programing line ups.

I'm wondering why they're dropping international channels first? I'm guessing they don't have the $$$ to knock out the "standard" channels yet.
For those of us who don't watch much int'l TV, we'll be fine for a while.

you will know when the XXXX hits the fan when you see the prices for the units drop like a rock and they are trying to give then away. But me l have all the fath in the coders. (go coders go )

If they have stock no reason they could not. I am sure we will be hearing about the cards arriving as many FTAers also have subs.

A guy I work with has had dn for a few years. He told me that he got his new cards a few weeks ago.

I think dn is going to move very quickly on this. If you look at the past. Dec. has been a big month for ecms. I would think DN want everything on nag3 by x-mas. Then we'll see if N3 really has been cracked over seas. Until then the rummors are going to really heat up now.

I have been a subsciber to DN for about eight years- this is the second card swap in that time. I live in Georgia. I didn't have FTA during first card swap, but I assume that was for Nagra 2.

Also it has been confirmed that NDS is cracked in Europe so it may be possible to do an LNB change and dish retune and watch Dave instead if the coders do it here as well.

I think that's all a big big rummor right now. People are getting worried due to n3 getting closer and closer. dave hacks always seem to surface at these times. If it was ture I would think at least one of the top fta manufactures would be jummping all over this. Just think, the sales of their units would jump through the roof if they came up with one.

Was snooping to some DN sites and appreantly it is a real memo but someone reliable in one of the forums said that schedule in the memo refers toe droping of international channels in mid to end of november and no schedule set for the latin and america top channels to be drop.

Anyway it seems they will indeed move internationals on DN to N3 by december and since their subs are less then other packages they go first. But you never know. The only way is to wait and see if any channels begin to drop in late November

Well lets do a calculation. We know from DN official count around 15 million receivers with subs. now they started in July to send G3 cards out and according to charlie own CEO they should be done by new year. Now if we divide the 15 million by 6 month (July to Jan) = 2.5 million a month, now we divide that by 30 (days in a month) = over 83,000 cards per day. Now counting in all those that had new cards with new recivers and HD people who already had their card send in before july (earlier in the year) would estimate around 38,000 cards per day should have been mailed out since july to finish by december so that about 250,000 cards per week through UPS needed to be send out.

Now I read somewhere that dish was indeed sending 250,000 cards to customers a week. That would make it finish by december. Also the new cards are relative probelm free to set and very PLUG and PLAY type (read at DN forums about how easy is ti set it up with no issue).

So end of the year looks possible for N2 stream shut down.

Actually comes from a published article with a response from NDS saying decrypting there signal is illegal and the person that does it can be prosecuted. Has been open in Europe since Sept 30.

I got a new G3 card for my DN receiver today. This receiver did not previously use a smart card, just had empty slot. Illinois!
