Re: nagravision 3(N3)what is it?-progress reports-channel outage list & more
So I just bought my STB and it looks like DOOM and GLooom for the statelite testing scene, but all these posts are almost a year old.
What's the current situ on Nagra3? Is it codeable? I saw somewhere that it'd already been implemented in Europe and opened there.
What's the story morning glory? Will the 2008 stb's handle it?

Re: nagravision 3(N3)what is it?-progress reports-channel outage list & more
I must jump in here on the band wagon and post a wondering question. I don't want to impose or sound rude by asking this, but with the switch over upstairs to N3, do you think that our current FTA receivers will still work? I've heard talk that the receivers out there now will not be able to work with the Switch over?? Any idea if this is true or will we just have to wait and see where it all goes from here???

whenever you hear something like that, LAUGH! these boxes that are in use right now ARE THE SAME ONES that were in use for N1.
N1 = same boxes
N2 = same boxes
N3 = see a pattern?
as far as getting EVERYTHING working again, IT IS a "Wait & See" game.
ps.
There are no dumb questions, as if you don't know the answer, then asking for it CERTAINLY is not dumb.

If and when there is a fix for n3 the stb`s you have now would most likely be able to take the bin that is provided, that of coarse is no guarantee just a educated guess on my part.
What some people are getting confused with is the change from mpeg2 to mpeg4. This is a form of compression not encryption. Most stb`s will only be able to handle mpeg2 but some of the newer ones like many hd stb`s come mpeg4 ready.

Re: nagravision 3(N3)what is it?-progress reports-channel outage list & more

N3 is an encryption, not a signal format. We're a long way from seeing DN go 100% HD.
Can you imagine the amount of $$$ that would be spent on DN's part to upgrade millions of receivers to HD?

Re: nagravision 3(N3)what is it?-progress reports-channel outage list & more
mpeg 4 doesn't necessarily mean HD, i think the new sat at. 72.7 contains dish networks entire standard definition package in mpeg 4...as far as N3 on DN, that won't start to happen until they have swapped out all the old cards...as far as i know that hasn't happened yet

Thats true buddy....Mpeg4 is not just hd. I was just giving an example of the stb`s out there that come Mpeg4 ready and many hd stb`s have that capability.
I`m glad you pointed that out though.

bill_of_oz, he's referring to Dn, not bev, as DN is still not active with any N3 yet.
