NDS took 6 months (trying) to break into the n2 cards themselves it was until tarnovsky was paid 6 figures that he broke the cards down in less than a week, which blew away NDS big-time. After that all the info needed was gotten from the cards used in a month and coders then used the MAPCALL codes to write the bin files needed. This took about 5 to 6 months to complete. Now coders have several more tools to use in writing codes, this makes it alot faster and easier to write codes now, this is why we have new bin files released in matter of hours not month's or week's nor even days. Most files today are wrote on a complier within minutes and released to the general internet of (broadcaster) within 2 to 4 hours.

Chris doesn't work cheap ... at a recent hAcKiN9 conference he was asked about the X-Box, and if anyone had offered his $$$ to look at it (this question was posed to him by a guy in charge of the X-Box program for MS) and he responded, yes, but the amount of money they offered wasn't enough.

You got to know, if he can do it (N3), he'll just do to see if he can do it.

Whether or not anyone ever hears the outcome remains the real question.

Yeah I remember reading that CG about the X-Box. Of course we know the STB business is a million if not multi million dollar revenue earner. So I agree it would be whether the money is right......

That quote came from a post by Odd Thomas called "the truth about n3". Considering the number of factual errors and pure speculation in the post, it can hardly be considered a reliable source.

Joeyo10a your quote when googled comes up with a header of "Big Gun will reverse engineer Nagra3 for a fee".....you do know who "Big Gun" is right?

If some other "phantom" hacker had cracked N2 I have to believe it would be all over the internet. Sorry but you'll never convince me other wise unless you can name this "phantom" hacker from abroad.

I'm not sure why you are so convinced that Tarnovsky was the source of the N2 hack. If you carefully read all the news articles that came out at the time of the Trial, you will see no such claim is made. Yes, Tarnovsky was Big gun and if you read the "Big Gun will reverse engineer Nagra3 for a fee" thread on the card hacking site, it should be clear that the N2 hack came from a card glitch and not hardware probing. Yes, but they didn't need to with n2.

I think in the near future all the companies will have an IKS model receiver on the market, while maintaining support till they do crack nagra3. for now iks seems to be king of the fta road.
my guess for now is sonicview , however a new kid on the block could surprise us all.

I've read many posts that speculate about DTV somehow helping in the past - and even that there are lawsuits in California over this.

What I would like to know is -- How is it in DTV's interest to have the other providers open?

Seems to me that would cut into their business too - they can't compete with "free."

• the POLL suggests that Sonicview is ahead of the pack
• Viewsat is runner up
• There is no certain time line for going down or to address the issue in any definate terms
• Europe has had it's share of this and it's is safe to assume folks in North America were watching
• those in the business to manage ,apparently have their own agenda n time table
• Been there seen it before is part of the equation
• Marketing n politics are part of the strategy/scene as well
• folks know for sure that one provider has been affected and NO resolution for what ever reasons (vested intrests-money or what ever) while other is waiting in the wings?
• guessing n rumors mills are evident in the FTA community without substentiative measures of any degree to vindicate those who start such conversation
• all said and done - it's TIME that will determine as the events UNFOLD

it's very simple...

in usa there are 3 major satellite provider (does not matter the order) : dish.....bevy....and globecast....

so for me it's very important to have the DISH AND GC.....SO WICH RECEIVER WILL COME UP WITH THIS 2 SAT FIXES AT THE SAME TIME....THEY WILL BE #1 FOR ME AND ZILLON OF ALIENS (WHO WANT TO WATCH FROM HOME COUNTRY) HERE IN USA..:d

SO ONLY TIME WILL TELL...

I think this whole who cracked Nagra 2 discussion is like the bible....we will never really know. I'll throw another fly in the ointment and post this quote as well:

I know when I google nagravision 2 crack/hack there is a lot more written about Tarnovsky then about a hacker in Europe cracking it or even Blacklist for that matter. Oh well like I said we'll probably both be on opposite sides of the fence about this for now.

Judging by how long we are waiting for new Globecast keys (or Bin), I doubt anyone listed will produce a solution to N3. Most likely, the crack will come from Russians or some new kid around the block!

Just kidding... it's gonna be Pansat... for sure.
