The fast turnaround times on files provided by SV, VS and CW and others over the last year and a half has spoiled many of you and have accustomed many to think, feel and actually believe that new files are a breeze, hell, they should have that cranked out in no time!

This is false thinking.

The coders work very hard on their craft and ALL should thank them for their efforts. Files don't magically appear, they are not delivered in the night by the secret society of .BIN fairies ... I know I was shocked to learn this myself!

The coders for Cooly have not abandoned you.

Prior to a year and a half ago, it would typically take 4-5 days to get a fix, every fix ... downtimes could stretch in to the weeks (yes weeks) ... imagine that. HOLY COW!

So, for those of you who perhaps 'over rely' on your Unit to be the primary source of entertainment delivery in your household, it may be time to look in to securing a more stable method.

For those of you who are newer to all of this, N3 is right around the corner, and what this means is, for many ... is that your current entertainment choices MAY resemble the TV when its off, even when its on, on every channel unless a fix is put forward.

If you are one who is currently upset about having to wait 5 or 6 days for a file ... you MAY not like the future all that much (I can almost guarantee it).

Although, having said that, there are some promising options out there.

I suggest that you use this period of downtime wisely, do some reading about N3, research some products that have shown some promise in this area and get yourselves set up to cope better once the landscape changes.

What many have come accustomed to MAY no longer exist as you know it now.

So, do some homework and you'll be fine. You might even discover True FTA.

You are quite right. These last few months or maybe last year, we have been spoiled silly by coders providing bins within 3 to 4 hours. And quite rightly at the very inception of FTA, we would have to wait a week or more before we saw a fix.

Great post CG, we all shoud be thankful to have wise people like you around to guide us in these tough times. We forget that this is a hobby and,yes,we have become spoiled. Thanks to you and the great staff here I stay informed and when I get frustrated when a ecm hits,I know where to go to get reliable help and information. Keep up the good work, and thank you again.

well cg i dont totaly agree . look at it this way,a salesman tells you what you can dowith a receiver so you think" this is great" then an ecm hits and you sit around for a week waiting and reading (like i did years ago) then someone asks were s the bin? and you get blunt answers like "it will be posted when ready" or you get a story like the last 4,5,6k fiasco a few months back . can you really blame noobies for their fustration . dont coders jump ship for more money? sounds more like a job than someone doing a favour no?
dont wanna bust your can but i think people are tired of being draged in a circle jmo.

No one is asking you to agree, there are many sides to every situation, I was mearly putting forward another take on the situatuion, one rooted in fact, and backed up by a little history (for the benefit of those that might be newer to all of this than others).

There's "magic boxes" for cable, cards "plastic" for some receivers and FTA..
and the best backup is a "Service Provider"

I am a coolsat owner and it is frustrating to see that every other box is working exept ours. But then I remember how much I have enjoyed having my box. From learning about FTA, to installing my system and updating the files. Whenever I have a question this is the place I come for anwsers. With that being said I have to agree with CG. We have been spoiled. Everyone of us knew the risks of buying an FTA receiver from day one. We all knew that the signal could go down at anytime, that is why I never considered cancelling my satelite provider. I use my box to watch certain sporting events and movies. So it paid for itself within a month o owning it. I've had it for over a year and a half already so you could only imagine how much money I have saved over the initial investment. Unless you bought your cs within the last few weeks I think every box out there has paid for itself already. I am confident that CS will not leave us hangin out to dry, it is not in their best interest to do so. And even if it is the end for CS we just got to look around for our next best option. Just remember that the box with the best support today might not be so tomorrow. It has been a gamble since day one. So lets hope for the best, and get ready for the worst. Thanks to all the members who have somehow helped me with my FTA experience directly or inderectly.

I'm not really all that bothered about my CS6100 being down as I have another receiver that is working. What I do find frustrating is the lack of information about where they are at with a fix. I would be happy if Norw would come out and say we're working on it but it may take 5 or 6 days. Right now everybody is guessing as to whether or not the coders have jumped ship, whether Coolsat has stopped all support for their receivers or other possible scenarios.

Agreed, having information would be comforting ... but with that comes anticipation and expectation and possibly disappointment.

I have a CS box and am down like the rest. Only been into fta 6 months, but my box has paid for itself in that span. I have debated backing it with a SV 360, but am hesitant to make any purchase until this N3 stuff is washed out and the myths and the facts are clear to us. From what I have seen everyone has a different opinion on what will and won't work and what box to buy to gain "salvation" before N3 destroys the world as we know it. For now I plan to save my money, wait for a bin, and find myself getting more done in the office knowing that I don't have free PPV waiting for me.
