Safe Practices for Loading a Viewsat
There are more and more instances of units "dieing". After(while) loading bin files. Created later than DBPSW_060905 versions.
Most (not all) of these newer bin files now contain a "Boot Check" in the code. An extra process during the flash process. A process that is different from earlier VS bins. A process that isn't common among other FTA units.
Much to the belief of many. This code will not damage an original VS. Interupting the loading process at the wrong time will, cause the unit to "die".
Resulting in nothing being seen on the LCD display. When the unit is booted (switch on the rear).
This can be confirmed by rapidly rocking the On/Off switch (on the rear of the unit). On and Off numerous times, to a On position. Resulting in a series of 8's or, (in some cases) various number combinations displayed.
(i)
With your Null Modem cable connected.
Start with the unit turned on. Displaying a channel number or nochan for a new or channel less(unscanned) unit.
Now open Loader2.
Browse to the bin you want.
Hit PC-->STB.
Now switch off the unit using the switch on the rear for about a second or two. Turn the switch back. The file transfer will begin.
At this point don't touch or close anything. Not until you see a channel number or nochan displayed. Now you can close Loader2 and disconnect cable. Turn off and (if need be) unplug the unit.
For those who use a notebook. Also those that have a cable that will reach both unit and PC.
This process can be done while connected and watching tv. That way you go from video, directly back to video. When the flash completes.
The unit does not need to be rebooted after flashing.
(ii)
With your Null Modem cable connected.
Start with the unit turned off (switch on the rear).
Open Loader2,
Browse to file you want.
Hit PC-->STB. Turn on switch on the rear of the unit. Transfer will begin.
At this point don't touch or close anything. Not until you see 0001, 0002, 0003 or higher displayed on the unit.
Now you can close Loader2 and disconnect cable. Either turn the unit on with the remote, turn the unit off (with the switch on the rear) and (if need be) unplug it.
The unit does not need to be rebooted after flashing.
I haven't described what is displayed during the installation process. Simply because watching the unit, for what I've described. You'll see and learn the process.
Disclaimer: These "practices" aren't a required process to follow. They just describe a way to avoid exitting the Flash (loading) procedure prematurely.

Re: Safe Practices for Loading a Viewsat
When I load up the new files and save the zip and then go and open it... I can't find anything that is a 'loader 2'.. what is this and what am I doing wrong? I am new to this and trying to muttle my way through it but not getting too much info on 'where to download and how to load'. Although your details were wonderful and 'saved' to my folder.. I still don't know where to download and what a loader 2 is. Can you help me here as well? Thanks so much for being so helpful w/ your great detail.

Re: Safe Practices for Loading a Viewsat
Loader 2 is what you need to open then you access the unzipped file to then download to your box. When I save my bins I save it to my desktop and then when I click on the loader it opens and I go to my desktop, click on the file I am going to load and the hit the "PC TO STB" and it will download. Go the top of this page where it says ariza. Click and scroll to your vs receiver. Go to the download section and you will find the loader pgm. Download it to your desktop and you should be ready to go. Good luck. Also Did you DL the files from this site? You need to be a VIP member to get the files from this site..

Re: Safe Practices for Loading a Viewsat
Also , when loading files via your usb you should always remember to reboot your system prior to and after loading bins , this will reduce the probablilty of your receiver locking up and thus having to load the bins with your null cable .

Re: Safe Practices for Loading a Viewsat
You do great work GH, appreciate the info but could you please elaborate details! All went as you said until simply turn on rear switch. Get garbage on display while attempting to load factory bin. Awaiting awhile and nothing happens, was the "undescribed" details after power up suposed to get the black % progress bar, or just wait to see if screen shows #'s eventually. Is the power up good anytime to work immediately, or do I need to time to cycle power up at "frame type" or so many seconds into the "resending ZRQINIT..."? I seem to be missing something as my Extreme is not responding as expected......... Need your expert advice please.

Re: Safe Practices for Loading a Viewsat
zazu. You should have your'e loader 2 saved in a file in your documents or wherever. Double click loader 2 to open. Window will open and ask if you wish to run. answer yes. Click open files and select the file you wish to load. With unit off connect cable then click pc to stb. at this point turn unit on and don't turn off untill unit says 0000. At this point turn off switch. Normally I would say and watch tv but at this time there are no working files.
Luck to you
