Major Problem on 2 Viewsat Receivers
Hello dear experienced Viewsat users. I have owned a Viewsat since the very first month they were released, back when the VS2000 came out, and have upgraded through every model up to the Pro which I am with currently, I have installed over 40 satellite dishes for friends, family and paid clients, therefore I am not some newbie not knowing a button or two on the remote.
Situation A:
Viewsat Platinum:
A friend's receiver that I have programmed with the latest PGM release has a very odd incident every single night; more than half or straight-forward ALL channels disappear! Not in the sense of Autoroll Processing or blacked out disappear; no they quite literally disappear. From 540 channels last night to 320 in the morning. First thought - No, SAT button has not been pressed it is still on either EchoStar Package or All Satellites... No FAV has not been pressed - it is still on all Channels - and yet there is only half the channels I left him with last night!
At first I didn't think much of it, only that he messed around with the settings not knowing what he was doing... So as to save him from himself - I put a pin code on the menu and told him not to go in the settings under any circumstances... Left him with 540 working channels. Next morning my phone rings... More than half the channels are gone... I go there in complete disbelief - and lo its true! 134 channels of the 540 I left yesterday, and my pin code the same... He says as he was watching around midnight, the channel he was on suddenly just said "No Video" or something of the sort, which is when, according to him - all the channels vanished... So this time I decided I will take serious measure... I did a Factory Default... I did a re-flash with the latest factory firmware, and a reflash again with the latest PGM off this website... Reconfigured all settings again rescanned everything, locked the menu with a new PIN and left him with 540 channels.
Sure enough on the following morning, not only were channels missing; ALL channels were missing! On the TV and on the Radio side! There was nothing, and the receiver displayed a "No Channels" message... This is when I post this thread... I have never, in my 5 years of card programming and receiver flashing experience, encountered anything like this... I am going to leave what I believe the problem is because I am here to see what you guys have to say about it, and possibly I will tell you what I am thinking as the thread with suggestions hopefully starts.
Situation B:
Viewsat VS-PRO:
My very own receiver. Works awesome! Love the picture, love Viewsat, love everything... But since the last update, something which is startling to me, and is remotely similar to my friend's issue; I turn the TV off and leave the receiver on all night. In the morning I turn the TV on and the receiver is showing a black channel. All the channels are there... All the channels have signal and quality, but there is no picture on any of them, until I press the switch in the back, and switch it back on - then everything goes back to normal... This only happens overnight... If I leave it and go somewhere and come back - everything is normal - but if left overnight, all channels black in the morning until I do a cold reboot.
Any ideas in either case are greatly appreciated; as you see I put my friend before me, as I feel that his issue is more pressing than mine, but please, if you have the time and will; and I know this forum is the best in the world which is the reason that I contributed to it a few days ago, I will be waiting for your attention and suggestions to the matter. All help is greatly appreciated.
My thanks and regards to everyone reading this thread.

Re: Major Problem on 2 Viewsat Receivers
all I can think of is on the platinum you should delete the bin file from your computer, download the new bin file again and see if that fixes the problem. sometimes the programs get a glitch when downloading them.
I dont know if the sat info file needs to be updated or if it would do what you say but in desperation it may be worth a try.
as for your pro, one reboot a day is not a big deal, a lot better situation than you could be in. you could also try reloading the program as well and see if it clears up but I wouldnt be too concerned unless it does it on the next bin too.
good luck and I hope these suggestions help you.

Re-downloaded the BIN and reloaded a factory satfile on the very second day. Appreciate the input, neither helped with the problem.

Appreciate the idea with the PRO. I am not too worried there either.

Re: Major Problem on 2 Viewsat Receivers
just thought of this, when the plat and xtreme switched to the ultra look it took all the memory available. there have been some posts with people reporting problems with things not working something like you say.
set his epg hours to 10 or less and after you get his channels back delete the ones you know he will not watch and see if the rest stay.
worth a try, hope it works!
