Noob with Sonic view questions
I'm very new to FTA and nees some information.
I haven't bought any equiptment yet, and have been looking ay recievers. I think I have landed on either the SV 360 Premier or the 360 Elite, and leaning twward the Elite as it will record on one channel, and still be able to watch another channel at the same time.
I did find out today that it will run a motor if I decide to go that route and test some other birds. It seems to have all the ports that is needed also.
I currently have a multi feed antenne ( I think that is what it's called) with 3 feed horns on it. Will this work okay with the 360 Elite? Also, what else would I need to make it all work? I would like to be able to test a few different birds and learn what this is all about and how it works.
Please point me in the right direction. I"m ready to buy, and have talked to a couple of site vendors already. Once I get my equiptment, I will subscribe here and support the site. Thanks all...
Frank
On edit: Do I need to know anything about HD reception? And can you tell me what PVR is?

Re: Noob with Sonic view questions
hello bud you can use it to run a motor but i would suggest keeping it under 100 ft next the feed horn will work no problem next a pvr is(personal video recorder ) you can hook up a external hard drive top the reciever to record tv ..
now the elite is a true dual turner you will want to run 2 seperate lines into it and then you can record on one tuner and watch the other or record on both .. if you are not into the recording thing big time you can get the premier and save 50 bucks it is a single tuner
i have the elite and love it .. so i gues the choice is your ..
good luck
sorry about the wait there was a hit on bev so a little longer to answer you question .. if i misssed aything post here again or if you have more questions everyone is great here later

Tomcat, thanks for the info. I am well within 100ft to the dish so that part isn't a problem. With the multi feed dish, do I even need a motor?
Dual reciever is a must for me. I really want to be able to record and watch on different channels. Does the receiver use any USB hard drive? I have a couple already, and that would pretty much keep me from haveing to put together a media computer, which I had planned on doing so I could record. Does the Elite have a built in menu that could be used to view what has been recorded, or is that some sort of software that woul dbe needed and uploaded to the reciever?
Sounds like the Elite will do everything I need it to do. What about HD compatability??? Is the motor something I could add later if I wanted to?

Re: Noob with Sonic view questions
the elite will not do HD the sv8000 will it will also record .. now what size is the dish and what kind ??
and the big question is what satellite do you want to hit with this dish .. alot of then you can swap out the feed horn for universal or dss
as for hard drives read this by arb
http://www.abadss.com/forum/942-sv-3...360-elite.html
there could be more but this is confirmed
and yes you can record to the drive and watch via the remote with a menu and all very nice you can also add your own music and pics and look at them on the same hard drive .. also
you can record and then hook up to your computer and burn them to dvd
yes you can add the motor later
also it has 3 usb port one in the front for loading the new bin and 2 in the back for a external drive .. it has it all and for under 200 bucks .. remember it is still in beta but mine works amazing ..

Re: Noob with Sonic view questions
why not just go with a big dish, motor and invacom lnb that way you test both circular/linear. This isn't a newbie setup but im sure there are plenty of people in here that can help you get up and running. The elite has 3 usb ports and your really gonna like that option. As long as you have your external hard drive connected you will just click on menu then pvr and it will take you into your folders where you have music, pic and movies. Its a great box!!!!

I didn't know it was still in Beta, but that's okay if it works. I looked at the hard drive info and actually have one or two of those drives. Looks like you need an externaly powered drive, which meens that the USB ports in the Elite don't have enough power to support USB pots powered drives. That isn't a problem.
If it's easier, I may just buy a complete kit if my dish isn't want I need. Then I won'thave to fool with it.

Re: Noob with Sonic view questions
Hey Frank: Most all FTA units can use a motor setup.
For a motor setup you only use 1 LNB.
This might be something for you to venture into later.
To start out with you will go for 110 & 119 DN / 82 & 91 BEV.
I have the SonicView 360 Elite (still in the box) to be tested soon.
I like the simple Dish500...it will get 2 sats...so 2 Dish 500s & 1 4X1 diseqc switch (comes with receiver) and you get all 4 mentioned above.

I have a Direct multi satalite dish that they left when I quit them. The sticker on the feed horn says Tripple-feed, multi satalite LNB. And also says built in multi switch with 4 outputs. Also says Phase III 18x20 dish antenna.
I have pics if you need to see them. It says I can't attach them, but I may be able to link to them.

Okay, I see. So a motor would let me have just 1 dish and I could get all 4 birds? If that is the case, I would probably start out with just the two birds, then get a motor and go to the other two birds later on. I have a pedestal mount right now, and would like to just have 1 dish if possible.
Just trying to sort all of this out so when I buy, I get the right stuff the first time. Thanks for the info.

Re: Noob with Sonic view questions
how about it, will my dish work for what I want to do with it? IF not, then should I get a Dish 500 dish when I get my receiver?
