I believe toe was asking what the "codes" are for. I have a vague idea but would appreciate a more knowledgeable input myself, maybe from someone who has used one of the SlingBox products.

More toys!!!!!!

The codes allow the sling box software to identify your stb, so that it knows how to recieve and transmit signal from your unit. Then you may access your stb through any web browser, once program is installed on your computer or capable cell phone. You will have a unique id assigned to your box and you create a password. I have sling box pro which controls 4 items i.e. stb, dvr, and HD signal, great product! I'm currently working on software for Iphone.

Re: slingbox codes

Thank you, Chill. Precisely what I was looking for!

Armed with that information, I located this great link that allowed me to understand a lot more about what the product does, and why the download files are required:

http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/slingbox.htm

Cool stuff!

If you want a more precise answer, why not visit the sling media website. Which is currently under the ownership of Echostar, which by complete fluke, also controls security for BEV and DN, crazy how small the world is.

He was asking for the codes for the box, its not as simple as just entering a 4 digit number and boom it turns on, that link i posted tells you everything you need to know. But please visit the slingbox website where they have tutorial videos on how their equipment works.

p.s. the slingbox pro is an amazing product, i highly recommend it for anyone stuck behind a computer all day, or stuck on Windows Mobile, Palm OS or Symbian cell phones and PDAs.

Re: slingbox codes

SoDark and Chill:

I had not heard of the SlingBox products until this thread arose (yah, I guess I really need to get out more..... ) so this was a great revelation. Thanks to both for letting me know about a really unique product that would seem to be an ideal companion to a FTA STB. Both the HowStuffWorks entry and the company site were excellent for increasing my knowledge.
