USB Hard Drive not recognized
Just purchased a 500gm Verbatim Smartdisk 500gb USB 2.0 External Hard Drive, Crossfire Edition, with WD inside. I could not get the SV360 to recognize. It was fat32. In the process of reformatting on my computer using format /FS:FAT32 command. Taking forever. Any other suggestions? The SV360 would not see it at all.

Re: USB Hard Drive not recognized
The SmartDisk can be a little tricky to use cause some of them want you to install drivers, etc. I suggest you go to Target, K-Mart,etc and get you a 512Mhz. USB stick for $10-$15 and use that. Much easier and very fast

Re: USB Hard Drive not recognized
Remember buddy there is two USB drive in SV-360(front &rear). Make sure you setup in where you insert your ext. hard drive. And Remember, the best thing to do is Turn OFF the switch at the back, then insert the external hard drive and turn ON.

Re: USB Hard Drive not recognized
Great advice cdo, I use the front slot for loading with my stick and the rear slot for the hard drive. Your new hard drive should be ready to go and should load the drivers automatically. I do know that almost all of the hard drives I looked at were no longer using Fat32 and needed to be reformatted before they would work, that is what I was trying to say on my first post. Your instructions will tell you which format to use

Re: USB Hard Drive not recognized
Tried all of those suggestions already. Tired every USB hole, hard booted and inserted while down. Its been formatting for 6 hours and at 75%. Hopefully it will go. Already have a 4gb usb stick that works fine. It was already fat32, and reformatted fat32.

Re: USB Hard Drive not recognized
If I cant get to work with fat32, do you guys think if I re-formatted with EXT2 instead, would that work? Was going to try to use a driver from Ext2 IFS For Windows to try to format the drive. I dont have access to a Linux computer, and I still cant get the SV360 to recongize the drive at all.
Or does anyone else have a suggestion on how to get this drive to work?

Re: USB Hard Drive not recognized
I can't even get their USB sticks to work, the Hard Drives as I said are almost impossible. I suggest you return it for a SimpleTech, Western or something else . Sorry I can't offer any technical advice.
Good luck

Re: USB Hard Drive not recognized
The best guess I can make is that the drive enclosure is not fully compatible with the USB specification (especially true if you are expected to load drivers to get it to run). I had the opposite experience with my Elite -- I bought a cheapo no-name drive to use with it, plugged it in, and it worked first time -- didn't even need to format as it came FAT32. Same with the memory stick I bought.

Re: USB Hard Drive not recognized
Same thing here with my brand receiver, bought a $37 SimpleTech and it has been the best thing I ever done. Just plugged it in and it worked, over a year and still working

If your computer operating system is windows, plug the usb hard drive into the computer. hit the start button and the right click on my computer, go to manage, this will bring up a window, click on disk management, you will see all drives connected to your computer. high light the usb drive go up to actions, go down to format and it will give options i.e. fat 32, ntfs, also quick format. Time depends on your computer processor speed, but it won't be anything like six hours.
