SV360 Elite gave up - DPP44, Dish Plus, DishPro LNB
I got my new Sonicview 360 elite, connected it to my dish setup, configured echostar 7, watched a channel for 5 min and my SV gave up. What i mean is, I get black screen when my component output was connected to tv. When I connected composite output to TV, I got black and white menu screen and that was too jumpy. I disconnected all my dish network inputs and just connected receiver with the TV to ensure that I can see the menu screen fine at least but no. Basically, it looks like that sonicview gave up in 30 minutes of setup and usage.
Fortunately, I bought it from authroized dealer and he has 15 days gurantee. I can get the same box for no extra charge but he would charge me 20% restocking fee if I take the refund.
I see great review for SV 360 E so I am tempated to try for second box but then I have two issues.
1) Did I do something wrong which caused SV to go wrong?
Info about my setup - I have dish network guy done the dish setup for me. I have one dish - Dish Plus, 3 Dish Pro LNBs, DPP44, power inserter for LNBs and separator which has two output connections for Sat1 and Sat2. I removed my current DN receiver, connected two ends coming out of seperator into two top inputs of SV receiver.
I don't see anything wrong with that. Was it just conincidence that my SV got damaged after 5-10 minutes of usage.
2) Whatever 5-10 minutes of TV I watched on one or two Echostar7 channels, I was less than impressed with the picture quality. The picture didn't look very good with component video connected. I have panasonic 720p plasma TV and I am comparing the PQ with my current DN receiver which is an HD receiver but I am talking about non-HD channel PQ.
Shouldn't I expect PQ as good as that of my current DN receiver ? I don't see any anyeone else complaining about sonicview picture quality so am I doing somethig wrong in connecting the box?
Should I try another SV 360E or just take 80% refund and go with safer choice of viewsat ultra? I will loose PVR though.
Thanks.

Re: SV360 Elite gave up - DPP44, Dish Plus, DishPro LNB
its sounds like just bad component cables from the start.
try using the ones with your dn receiver? or is this what your doing? and are they plugged in correctly and all the way?-double check that buddy.
black/white pic with rca cable doesn't sound good tho.

yes, i am using the same cables with DN receiver and they work great. Retried connecting couple of times, no luck. SV receiver really seems to be broken.

I'd like to see you take all the extra crap off the dish and just use a straight connection from the 2 dp lnb's. The receiver has power to the lnb's, sounds like it got overloaded.

Re: SV360 Elite gave up - DPP44, Dish Plus, DishPro LNB
Thanks for the quick responses, guys.
mountaineer - I currently have only receiver connected to TV (either using composite, component or s-video) so I don't think clearing cutter from dish would help. If the receiver was damaged because of the overload, the damage is already done.
abortisman - I can view something only in composite and s-video mode however the picture is not only B&W but it is jumpy too i.e. keep going up and down quickly I can't use any of the manu functionalities in this mode. So, I am not sure how to use the factory file.
I was wondering if I would see similar issue for new receiver too in my current setup. Since my LNB is laredy powered, should I try LNB Power 'off' in receiver setup.

Re: SV360 Elite gave up - DPP44, Dish Plus, DishPro LNB
As far as your general questions about the Elite, I have had one on line for about a month and cannot complain about the picture quality at all, with a SD television. And even though there are a few bugs, I still think it's the best value for the money at present.
I am hoping your trouble was just a bad box -- that's what warranties are supposed to be for. It's unlikely to have been transponder overload if you have a power inserter already online, but nothing's impossible I suppose. Most of us run three TP's so the box should easily have enough power for that (not counting the DPP44 of course).
If it were me I would still go with the Elite.

Re: SV360 Elite gave up - DPP44, Dish Plus, DishPro LNB
your pic is not gonna be as good as the 720p your sub dn reciever is putting out. if you want that HD quality you will have to go with the sv8000 hd reciever. Im running a sv360 elite on regular tv and the pic is great. I would not give up on this box cuz its definitely the best (non HD) out there at the moment.

Re: SV360 Elite gave up - DPP44, Dish Plus, DishPro LNB
I have my 360 Elite set up with a DP34 switch. As soon as my power inserter comes in I will use my DP44 switch with 4 sats. Yes there were bugs in the beginning. Sometimes the setup is not correct. A friend bought my old sv4000 and could not get it setup and I finally went to his house and changed his antenna settings and it works great. He also said the box was damaged. The early files have a bad picture. The newer files with the color update in the menu have a good picture. My only issue was finding a HD that worked with the unit. SV told me to use a Simpletech HD and it works great. I will let you know how mine works with the power inserter.
