formating

I got a sv 360 pvr several days ago, setup went well, use direct lines to each tuner and
channel scan went well but when I tried to record no luck. I did search and found that I
needed to format drive to receiver. When I
do that I need to put a code in and I use 0000
and get all data will be erased yes or no. Is 0000 the right code and what data is lost?

Thanks in advance for a solution

The drive needs to be formatted before it can be used successfully (usually with a format called FAT32), but some drives are already formatted correctly out of the box. If yours is not, then the stb can be used to do it. A windows computer can be used too, most times.

The '0000' is simply a security code (which you can modify if you like) to keep curious kids and others from doing dangerous things like drive formatting, or watching adult channels.

Formatting restructures the storage area of the hard drive and in the process anything that was previously on the drive will be lost. If this drive is to be used only with your stb, then that is exactly what you want -- there should not be any non-pvr stuff on there to cause potential problems.

Here's a valuable tip -- when the drive is connected and working correctly with the stb, there is an icon on the channel info bar (looks like a pitchfork) that will be illuminated.

Good luck -- I absolutely love my pvr.

The "press blue button" message comes up to let you know that the STB had found the USB device and attached to it. Once attached, it is just letting you know that you must use the safe eject function before physically disconnecting the drive, or else risk losing data from the drive.

The drive must remain connected while viewing TV if you expect to use the time shifter function, which is the other major function that uses USB, in addition to the PVR.

After a reboot, and especially if using "auto" time shift, it is frequently necessary to perform a scan on the drive before it will record or play back, because the interruption created an incomplete data structure on the drive.

I see no reason why the USB device should affect channel decoding -- that's much more likely to be due to the BIN version loaded.
