Tuner 2 issues

Hey Guys

I have a Dish 500 with a DP Plus, dedicated lines going to each of the tuners so I get 110/119 on each tuner.

Tuner 1 went well, but I had issues with tuner 2. A few channels weren't showing up on 2, and I ended up scanning the TP's individually to get them in (but I finally did).

Something is still not right though. My EPG on tuner 2 won't populate most channels. I have left it on channel 200 and WGN as well for several hours but no luck. I wonder if this is a signal issue?

Re: Tuner 2 issues

turn box off from front and back. disconnect tuner 1 coax cable and start back up with tuner 2 only connected and see if it populates. then hook tuner 1 back up see if it all works.

Re: Tuner 2 issues

Do you have one of these?? It might prove to be better than running two long cables.

Instead of running 2 long lines, run 1, and use smaller lengths of RG6 and connector.

I have noticed a similar effect -- I have a similar rooftop setup except that I have a small single dish plugged into the DPP for 91. I initially noticed that after running 'Scan All' on both tuners, I did not have the same number of channels on each.

It finally occurred to me after a huge amount of experimentation that the two tuners do not behave completely independently of one another. Sometimes changing channels on T1 will cause a loss of signal on T2 (truly a bummer if I was recording on T2..... arrrggghhhh). I originally thought that I had something in my Dish Setup wrong, but it doesn't appear so now.

And man is it weird. I have certain combinations that I can set up where, for example, if I have T1 set to chan X and T2 set to chan Y, then T2 will show "No Signal". But if I reverse it, putting chan X on T2 and chan Y on T1, they both work.

I have let SV tech support know the details, but there is always the possibility that it is somehow linked to the custom firmware. Sure hope not.

Re: Tuner 2 issues

systemdude, just a thought ever think about putting a inline power inserter on tuner 1 cable going to lnb to boost power to lnb.box might be under powered to run 3 lnbs. or disconnect 91 from sat input on lnb and see how your box works just using 110-119. my setup is dish 500 dpp single coax running to dpp seperator and to both tuner with 2 12inch going to tuner 1 and 2.

Re: Tuner 2 issues

Some good advice here to try when I get home tonight from work.

I also noticed that my recordings are all named PPV_001 and so on. I imagine this would be related to the same issue, it only named one of them. But I recorded off tuner 1? And do any of you have to go into a folder to see your recordings? Arrrgh. My Viewsat Pro didn't have all these annoying little glitches (but the picture sucked on that one).

I have the same dish and the same receiver, why you just run one cable and use one turner only and follow my steps, check in the sv360 help section and read my sticky about your dish 500 how to

You don't need any switch if you are using D500

Re: Tuner 2 issues

lets see if i can put it in simple terms.look at it this way(dish pro plus only),on the single line coming into the house from lnb it has four signals coming thru it 2-110 and 2-119. now install the seperator like the one that zeke posted in this thread earlier. this seperator will seperate the signals to where 110-119 will come out one output on seperator and 110-119 coming out other seperator output so you can run two box'es from one line coming in. both tuners on elite or you can run 2 premier from one cable coming in. so you can run 4 premiers or 2 elites with 2 cables coming into house with 2 seperators

Re: Tuner 2 issues

I think I am catching on slowly. Now correct me if I am wrong here,,,,

The DP Plus has 2 LNBs built into it. So 2 places to hook up coax.

Each LNB picks up 110/119. Doesn't matter, either one is the same.

So in reality I can take the LNB on the left of the DP Plus and run a single cable from it to a normal receiver, and ignore the one on the right if that is all I really wanted to do. And pick up both 110/119 because of the existing built in switch.

Now, I can put the seperator in THAT line and split it off to 2 receivers.

I can do that again with the LNB on the right, and run 4 receivers off this.

Am I wayyyy off here?
