Loader won't connect to STB (among other problems)
Hi Guys,
So I was up and running with my new 360 elite for about a week and everything was working great until that last zap by BEV. I loaded up the V150 file onto the usb the same way I did for the 149 file and loaded it onto the elite. It said it was loaded successfully, asked if I wanted to restart and I cliked ok.
Now It won't work at all! It just says "boot", then "Main" then shows either a "1" or the "n" from main on the led. Nothing shows up on the screen and no buttons have any effect on anything other than the power switch.
I read around a little bit and it sounds like the exact same problem that rajiv427 had a few months ago. He eventually returned the STB for a new one. Before I got that far I want to reload the factory 103 file but I'm having troubles using the loader through the PC.
I've downloaded and tried both of these loaders, Downloader_v0201.exe and Downloader_v1.1.exe but they don't seem to connect to STB and nothing happens. I followed these instructions from the Sonicview website , http://sonicviewusa.com/downloads/manual/HowTos.pdf.
Does anyone have any idea about why I may not be able to connect through the serial?? Or maybe any other ideas on things I can try?
For the record I've tried the "unplug and leave it for a bit" and the "boot while holding the ok button with the usb drive inserted" both to no avail.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Loader won't connect to STB (among other problems)
I had the same problem buddy,I even loaded the factory file with the cable but that never fixed it.Try if you can load the factory file and if it doesn't fix it then I suggest you to send it for repair.

Re: Loader won't connect to STB (among other problems)
BY a "hard reboot" do you mean simply turning it off and on again with the back switch? If so, I've done that and every time it just boots up in the same sequence I described originally. Is there some other way to "hard reboot" this thing?

1. During loading factory v0103, do you see any progress on the STB display ?
2. Does the loading complete successfully on the PC screen? If not what do you see on the PC screen ?
3. If yes, does the STB reboot on it s own ending with a "1" or the "n" ?

Re: Loader won't connect to STB (among other problems)
All I see on the PC screen is the titled Data transfer... and then in that window it shows the filename of the rom I'm trying to load but nothing else happens after that.
Unlike the screenshots in the instructions it never asks me to turn on the STB or anything, so even if I try to turn it on at that point nothing happens at all. No progress is ever shown on the indicator.
Also if I click the "i" button in the main program it loads up the window which is supposed to show my stb info but everything is blank, leading me to think it isn't really connecting???
thanks for the help so far.

Re: Loader won't connect to STB (among other problems)
It appears that there is no communication between the PC and the STB. I noticed that rajiv427 has successfuly completed the loading.
This could be caused by a problem with the PC or its setup, the serial (null modem) cable that came with the STB, or the STB itself.
Although both may work, I suggest you use Downloader v1.1 as it worked for me.
1. Did you successfuly used this setup in the past?
2. Are you sure you choose the right COM port on the PC?
I suggest you try, if possible with another computer.
With or without that instruction about turning the unit off and on you must have the STB OFF from the back switch and then turn it ON from the back switch only immediatly after the PC shows that Data transfer... window.

Re: Loader won't connect to STB (among other problems)
Hmm, that what I figured as well. I have tried both COM ports with no luck so I think I'll have to try to find another PC to try it out on.
Has anyone out there had any success with a USB to Serial cable? I ask because my other computer doesn't have a serial port.

Re: Loader won't connect to STB (among other problems)
I tried both loaders as well, with no luck. I eventually solved my problem, but it wasn't the same as yours , and I didn't use the loaders.

I was reading all the threads on this problem, mine is simular but I'm stuck with a secu fail that won't go away and the STB HD8000 SV is only a week old. I'm using a lapto PC (XP Pro) without a serial port, I'm using Keyspan USB-serial. Now I've been using it for over a year updating my SV-1000 and it work very well. Now I've bought a SV-HD8000 and the loader doesn't work, it keeps failing to transfer the ( i) tells me its either not connected or Version not supported. I also get the same msg with my desktop PC (windows 2000 Pro) Its very aggravating, I don't believe the STB is dead, there must be something that can be done.
Oh well just wanted to put in my 2 cents.

Re: Loader won't connect to STB (among other problems)
Hi again guys,
Just wanted to let you know what happened. I took the unit back to the dealer I got it from and they spent 2 days trying to revive but were unsuccessful. Same as me, they couldn't connect at all.
The guy there took pity on me since it was only a week old and gave me a new one for half price. (No warranty because of the 3rd party software)
Anyways, I got he new one loaded the V150 file and everything is working fine now. Hope you guys figure yours out as well.
Thanks for the help.
