Welcome to the site. Edwin has summarized the Premier's startup procedures in this sticky:

http://www.abadss.com/forum/961-sv-3...0-premier.html

The only file(s) you will need are located in the Premier Download section. The unzip function is built into Windows if you use it; not sure how Mac handles it.

If that is still not enough to get you started, I suggest you start your own thread in the regular section of the Premier Help forum, specifying what equipment you have (dishes, LNB's, etc.) and what steps you have taken so far. The 360 is a popular item here and lots of folks will be more than willing to assist if sufficient info is supplied.

Re: report your pvr results here

I have no pvr settings in my premier unit. I contacted sonic view about the faulty pvr settings and they said it was a software related error and will be looking into it and hopefully fix it in a new firmware release.
My question is does ANYONE have fully functional pvr on this unit?
I can record a show no problem, but i can't change the channel as it is recording. Also the timeshift feature on live tv has no rewind/fastforward. Only pause and stop work.
Can anybody confirm that this is a problem with all premier units?
I would love to have full pvr ability, but it seems that it is hopeless for now.

I have an Elite, which uses almost identical PVR functions except that the Elite has two tuners. I have been able to master most of the PVR functions, to the point that I can now get it to do pretty much anything I want, reliably. Admittedly there are a few funky things, but they are easy to work around once identified. I would recommend reading stickies in both the Premier and Elite sections of this site.

The 'no channel change' thing is a characteristic associated with the single tuner. When a recording is in progress, you are only able to view the channel that is recording or any other channel that is on the same transponder frequency (maybe 10-20 channels). Hence the reason for the second tuner on the Elite.

As regards the time shifter, I personally keep mine set to 'auto' as I believe this offers more flexibility (but this may be irrelevant). Once activated, I have no problem using the FF and RW buttons. And for super-speed movements, use the < and > (volume) buttons whenever the time-shifter window is open on the top of the screen. The time-shifter window is opened with the Play button and closed with the Exit button (when the TS is in 'auto' mode).

Hope this helps.

My SV-360 Premier has exactly the same problems as yours and I received the exact same reply from SonicView tech support 6 months ago when I reported it.

The PVR functions of these boxes have never worked properly and those on this forum who claim they work well probably have the Elite and not the Premier. I thought you Elite guys had your own forum. Obviously SystemDude has never tested one but claims to be an authority because he has tested an Elite and they do have similar names. His comments have been a disservice to this forum. The Premier is a big disappointment and I have tested both.

There's no comparison between the PVR functions of the Premier and the Elite. Forget about FF and RW live TV, only Pause, Play and Stop. Recording on one is hit or miss. There are no PVR Settings in the PVR menu. I have to hard reboot once or twice every day to record and play back reliably, otherwise I get missed recordings with frozen images and error messages such as "usb removed" or "no stream drive found". About half the time I get only a a stll image while Fast Forwarding through recordings. I currently used a 250 gig WD passport drive and have tried several other drives recommended on this site and others. And having to power off to fill in the program guide, how lame is that?

Maybe you and I are the only the only testers who have these problems, but I doubt it. The Premier is a work in progress and not ready for primetime. If you bought yours for the PVR functions, I would highly recommend that you exchange yours for the Elite, which does work as advertized. If you decide to keep the Premier, make sure you get your information from a reliable source.

Good luck to any one who buys the Premier. You will need it!

I have never claimed to be an authority on anything, including the Elite. All I have ever tried to do here is to add to the pool of shared knowledge and perhaps allow someone to build upon those experiences that I have had. Anyone is free to ignore anything I or anyone else says at any time. My apologies for having wasted your time.

Thank you! I knew that I was not the only one having these problems. I ending up ordering a elite also. I gave up on the premier, but kept it for a bedroom receiver. The Elite works great, but the premier...well it kinda sucks.
If anyone is going to purchase a Sonic View......DO NOT BUY the premier, run away from it. Spend the extra 30 bucks and get the elite.

What really bothers me is that sonic view advertise the premier having FULL PVR functions, when it does NOT! False Advertising.....shame on you sonic view.

Re: report your pvr results here

I too was having problems with freezing recording to the PVR. Shows would record for no more than 30 seconds and then the receiver would lock up and require a reboot. I was using a 3.5" 200GB IDE Maxtor in a USB enclosure.

I was about to trade in my Premier for an Elite but after twiddling around for a bit, the PVR problems went away when I switched the hard drive to another USB enclosure of the same make/model. Now my PVR records without a problem and I'm very happy. I don't understand why the problems came about or why they went away, but my suggestion would be to try another enclosure or HD altogether to see if it helps any.

Tiger that is not our problem. Do you even have the "PVR Settings", MP3 and/or JPEG viewer in your PVR section?

I have both an elite and the Premier but the Premier can only record and pause live television and does not fast forward, rewind or even go back to the guide or menu while recording. I have to stop it to get out of it. There is a serious bug with it and I think we would all be justified in getting our money back for such a horrible product. I bought it specifically for the PVR and knowing that the elite's PVR had worked just fine for me.

Re: report your pvr results here

I have been using my premier's pvr function since i got it in Jan.. I haven't gotten my 1tb hard drive to work with it yet (formatting problems), but i have been recording movies 1 at a time to a cheap 2gb flash drive. I record a single movie, transfer the data to my pc, and format the stick using the 360 before the next recording.
I have always selected the program to record throu the epg, as there is no other way i have found other than by time/date.

I have always told myself that what I am doing is just "not right" anyway, so I have tolerated the inconsistencies and had an understanding that "what we do" is not always going to be perfect. I'm a former TiVo user, and TiVo is a tough act to follow for a pvr.

These are 3 very seperate occurences, and when I get home, i always know which I am looking at, and what i have to do to fix it.

sometimes after a scheduled recording the 360 will act like it is still recording 6 hours after the program is finished. no errors in the recordings that I have seen yet. but I have to tell the 360 to stop recording so i can change channels. sometimes in this event i have to power off (via remote) to get my channels not to display "scrambled or no signal" or to unfreeze them. after turning back on no issues.

sometimes when I return home after a scheduled recording the box will be tuned to a completely different channel than the recording was on, channels not even on the same favorites listing, or will even jump from 110 channels to 119 channels. usually it's a sports ppv channel, and i never watch them. still haven't seen this affect the recordings in any way.

sometime when i get home after a scheduled recording all channels are dead and display "scrambled or no channel" and i have to turn it off at the back switch. upon reboot everything is golden, and my recording is unaffected.

Sometimes there is no issue at all, and everything is the way you would expect it to be.

I have only attempted playback from the flashdrive once. if i pause it, when i resume play, it will take a while for the audio to come back, and even longer sometimes for the audio to sync with the video.

wrong. straight out of the box i hooked the hd up to the 360. It has a power cord. the 360 wouldn't read the drive or format, acted like nothing was connected. I formatted the harddrive off my PC using the LaCie disk that came with it.

"Make sure you Fat32 the HD" that is what I'm having trouble doing.

Google a program called Swissknife. It is free and does a good job of formatting USB drives.

swissknife thinks i only have a 495gig drive, gives inconsistent options to format to, and makes it so the 360 won't find either partition(or whatever it does with the remaining 500gigs it doesn't think exists)

I'm going to give your program a try tonight S2, thanks for the link.

I didn't intend to hijack this thread. I was just posting results i have had with recording using the method i have been able to use.

I have an already open thread for resolving this Harddrive issue here.

Thanks,

Re: report your pvr results here

I was testing the PVR feature yesterday, or should I say this morning, and it worked great! I was looking for any movie to record, so I picked one that was about to begin. The movie was Delta Farce. The movie took up 1.13 GB on my 2.0 GB Memory Stick DUO on my PSP Slim. It works well when I transferred it to my PC. Of course, I need my PSP for other stuff so I'll need to buy a thumb drive dedicated for my 360 Premiem. The playback is good on the system. No freezing, no hassle, no frustation.

tl;dr PVR is awesome!
