Re: viewstat dis gone
if people buy their VS from an authorized dealer, you can always ship the receiver to the manufacturer for repair

Re: viewstat dis gone
Because one store closes down, all of viewsat is in trouble? Am I missing something here?
The warranty on any reciever is void the minute you load a third party BIN file, so unless you are using your reciever with factory software for true FTA, then you don't have a warranty

Re: viewstat dis gone
viewsat's warranty has been null for awhile now anyway.

Re: viewstat dis gone
Unless you are using your Viewsat for TRUE FTA then you would be unwise to return it for warranty work. See Arbors post above. They are required by court order to preserve the chip data from any unit returned for warranty work. Loading the Factory Default will not erase all third party data.
Although I do not own a Viewsat myself nor do I recommend loading 3rd party software on one, it is my understanding that the only way to erase all evidence of third party software on an FTA box is by Jtagging it. It is also my understanding that this is not possible with a VS.
Feel free to correct me if I am misinformed on this issue.

There are cleaner files for removing all traces of installing 3rd party files for every Viewsat receiver model. These cleaner files are available in every Viewsat model file download section.
Also a note here - it is best to write this cleaner file 3 times, and also factory default 3 times to ensure the EEPOMs are devoid of all traces.

i dont think i would be willing to bet heavy fines, and possible jail time, that a "cleaner file" is going to wipe out the recievers memory 100%.....
is the risk really worth it over a reciever that is only worth a couple hundred bucks?.....in my opinion, no.....
if you delete your entire hard drive on your computer, or even re-format the drive 100 times, your old files can still be recovered if the drive is placed in the right hands.....
also....if the file does work properly, why do you need to load it 3 times?....do you need to load a BIN file 3 times before it works?

Re: viewstat dis gone
I agree Bill. The only truly safe warranty return is a box that was only used for True FTA.
If the rumors are true however of the prosecution of this TheBroken coder and DN evidence of VS paying him then warranty work is probably a moot point. Once a monetary connection is made between a coder and an FTA box then they can no longer claim they produce boxes solely for FTA and their days are numbered at best.
In that scenario the TRUE FTA users of this box lose as well. Although they never used the box for anything illegal if the company goes out of business they will lose their warranty even though they never did anything wrong.

I was giving a little FYI to RagingBull since he asked.
Yes, the EEPROMs will be clean using the cleaner files.
Also, FYI, writing bin files to a receiver it is actually advantageous to write them three times, actually. I generally recommend this if you experience subtle problems with a single bin write. I can site occurrences of this, but I will leave it at that.
The trouble with cleaner files is you cannot write them if you have certain receiver problems, as in the case of a loss of power. Then there is no way to clean the EEPROMs unless you get the power supply working.
And, if you know how to properly erase a hard drive, data is also totally unrecoverable as well.
Everything called 1's and 0's is more exactly just + and - charges.
What can be written can be changed.
