SV iHub Update? 10/16/09 - You decide.
Ok - I didn't make this one up... Swear!
C/P
The main problem with SonicView iHub is the Server .
Server was shutting down , and it is replacing at this moment , the new platform is incorporated to support Files Online , there is a big possibility to get iHub back to normal how was in the beginning.
Now , this operation will required a little bit time , we are expecting this successful upgrade get done for this weekend.
Black Screen might be continued till weekend , If the new server is not available , there will be an extra week to finish the Job .
Now , this new implementation will be launched with a new file , but you must considered have previous loaded Wiznet and version 1.4 , also set in the IP Conf to DHCP and DNS to Yes and the svftaiks .
If you are no in those currents setting , you must change it , because it will be the key to launch and load the new file.
Contemplating in launch Bev , DN at full .

I know people are tired of hearing this -- but I think SV will come back even better. The blackout gives me the impression that real work might be going on. We just need to be patient and if you can't handle not having TV, there are other alternatives.

i dont get this......DHCP is only relative to your own local based home network.....it has absolutely nothing to do with the connection to their server, so why does it matter to them what your local settings are?? this makes no sense whatsoever.....if your set to DHCP or setting up your own static IP it doesnt matter one bit to the sever, those numbers are only relevant to your own local network.....

So when they were working on it before, it begs the question, "what were they actually working on??" I'm guessing they have carpenters doing electrician's work.
I'm with TBass on this one.

Re: SV iHub Update? 10/16/09 - You decide.
First is the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth Michael? You're not pulling our leg again are you? J/K ROFLMAO!!
Second I agree with bill setting up a static i.p or running one DHCP will have no bearing on their server status. In fact I would think it would help things....on the users end anyways because with a static i.p you can then port forward instead of having the data not know where to go on your LAN you could direct it to a certain port on your LAN. That would have to make some difference in the operation of the IHUB. Just like opening and closing ports speeds up torrents its gotta help in the operation of the IHUB....since they both work on UDP protocol.

Re: SV iHub Update? 10/16/09 - You decide.
If this is the truth, they must have had a very cheap server to start with and did not realize the impact of thousands trying to access the server. Especially if folks who like to channel surf all the time are on, that could bring the server down quickly.
Hope they get this going pretty soon or if VS gets the cardless fix as they claim, SV will not be able to make a comeback.

Bill,
Here is my guess (only)....
115 is their primary server that routes requests to others - 89, 90 etc. So when you select DHCP and use svftaiks.com as the main server....it translates to 115 which then routes the request to 89, 90 or other based on what channel one is watching. Hence the need for DHCP.

Hmm nope you're thinking of DNS....thats what converts svftaiks.com into an i.p. DHCP has nothing to do with a server....its only use like bill said is to be used as a set up tool on your LAN. To route traffic to a specific port on your LAN is usually its normal reason for use. For them to tell you that you HAVE to set it up on DHCP tells me they really don't know what they are doing....because that will have absolutely no bearing on their server load....none at all. I would like somebody to ask this on their forum and see what response they get....I'm very curious.

"To route traffic to a specific port on your LAN is usually its normal reason for use." Should of read for it to NOT be used....static i.p is used to port forward and DHCP is used to grab an i.p automatically. **** I'm tired I need to go to bed.....

Re: SV iHub Update? 10/16/09 - You decide.
All DHCP does is say to your router "Give me an IP Address please". With Static you have to set the IP manually in a range that your router will accept.
This is all done on your local network and would have absolutely nothing to do with an external server load. Obviously if this was actually put out by the coders they have no idea what they are doing so the likelihood of them getting things working right is low.
As with most rumors however we have no way of knowing where it really comes from.
